never accelerate through a closing gap
The trouble with closing gaps is that they close! And sometimes they can close faster than expected.
Is that THROUGH, or INTO?
Once you are
through it it is an irrelevance as to how big it is, or how fast it is closing, so I would bring this down to defining GAP, and the possibility of the rear vehicle making up enough space in the time you intend to stay in front to pose a risk.
Never for novices, evaluate for experienced drivers?
It's only another slant on pulling out from a side road into gaps in oncoming traffic - if you can quickly match your speed to a vehicle which has just passed, and the closing vehicle is far enough back, then ensuring you dont stall, or miss a gear, you make the manouvre on merit.
