We're doing well.

In the 12 months to September 1st 2005 Safe Speed was mentioned at least 245 times in the media.

In the 12 months to September 1st 2006, Safe Speed was mentioned in the media at least 338 times.

That's a 40% increase in media profile in 12 months and mentions are now comfortably exceeding 1 a day.

Figures based on threads in the 'Safe Speed in the News and Media" forum, which are actually a very considerable underestimate.

- We're probably missing more than 50% of mentions with many local papers carrying our PR without us ever knowing about it.

- It's not uncommon these days for me to be unable to keep up with the logs and fail to post radio work.

- Quite a few log entries are multiple appearences.

- Common web site mentions are deliberately ignored because there are so many.

- Syndicated news is ignored because there are so many copies of the same story.

I know you're joking, but in a world where we're often falsely accused of deliberate bias I don't find it very funny.

For the sake of the lurkers...

- there's no possibility of regression to mean bias.
- I have listed all the sources of bias that I can think of (there in the first post) and all of them lead to underestimates.

Yes I certainly was joking and you are to be congratulated on your tremendous achievement in bringing public attention to the failure of current road safety policies in reducing road casualties. Perhaps you are being a bit too sensitive about such a comment.

What I know is that the Safety Camera Partnerships have no qualms about using a completely corrupted interpretation of their data to make quite outrageous and misleading claims about the reduction in road casualties that they claim to have achieved.

...which is why SafeSpeed is to be applauded, encouraged and supported by all who care about honesty and openness in the world of road safety.

Excellent achievement, congrats to Paul and SafeSpeed!

supertramp I care just as much as anyone and couldn’t agree with you more, but are we now so sensitive that we can’t stand a small quip about the analysis of some statistics.
