This might be of interest. It is an article about Brunstrom and his obsession for speed enforcement.

Replying to Tory party vice-chairman and former shadow Welsh secretary Mr Evans, Mr Brunstrom said: "I think you are right to say I have, in your terms, an obsession with speeding - I am proud of it."

"Three thousand, five hundred people die on our roads each year and something ought to be done about it."
I think that was either worded with great care or none whatsoever. It seems to imply a link between speeding (proud of his obsession) and all 3500 deaths, which clearly ain't so. Is that what he wants us to believe or does he actually believe it himself? Or in fairness to Brunstrom, I suppose it could just be selective quoting on the part of the media, which wouldn't exactly be a first either. :)

You might scoff, but it's a real pleasure to drive in Flintshire nowadays – hardly any speeders have licenses anymore!

Cool, people unemployed and possibly homeless after being the victims of an illogical hate campaign. Woo-hoo!

We know of at least one case where that is not true.

8-) Hi.
It's a pleasure to drive anywhere in N. Wales now as far as speeders go, general bad driving now needs to be addressed, ie left from right hand lanes, right from left hand lanes, and the stamping out of abuse from wrongdoers when someone drives correctly.
Regards.
T. 8-) 8-) 8-)

It's hardly a surprise driving in Flintshire is a pleasure, there must be fewer cars on the roads than in the 50s. No one visits the place and a swathe of the local population can no longer drive.

I'm surprised you think that because Flintshire is beautiful. For example, Moel Famau:

or Dyserth: Image

Not bad, eh! Puts the south in the shade, especially now the speeders are gone!

I know how beautiful the place is, I have spent a lot of time admiring it. The problem is, that whilst I love to walk I can't afford to be restricted to it as a mode of transport, so I no longer go to North Wales. I'd rather pay the French £4.60 and use the M5 than risk my wallet in Brunstromland. Wasn't there a guy who used to make the English feel like this in the old days,,,Dick wasn't it .

Of course, Dyserth is in Dnbighshire, not Flintshire. It is situated some 20 miles east of the Flintshire border.

And the photo? Not Dyserth waterfall, if that's what you are trying to make out. I don't know where it is, but it's not Dyserth.

It's in the current Denbighshire Unitary Authority, but in the historic county of Flintshire. And it's west of the current Flintshire border.

Looks fairly like the Dyserth waterfall to me. It looks very much like this picture.

We are talking about the current unitary authority of Flintshire. I don't understand your point.

East schmeast.

I lived across the road from Dyserth Waterfall for about 5 years. Never saw vegetation on it once.

I don't think Basingwerk specified which version he was talking about. However the version that endured a thousand years probably has more hold on the public consciousness than the version that was invented about eight years ago.

See the website of the Association of British Counties

"ABC contends that Britain needs a fixed popular geography, one divorced from the ever changing names and areas of local government but, instead, one rooted in history, public understanding and commonly held notions of cultural identity."

I don't think so. North East Wales has an extremely mobile population and I doubt that most of the population realised the county structure before the reorganisation of 1974.

Anyway, isn't this all somantics?

Then good. I like North Wales and by removing people like you who find it impossible to enjoy the countryside without breaking the speed limits the roads, lanes and countryside becomes safer, quieter and more pleasant.

If he reduces the noise pollution from the A55, which is irritating up to 5 miles away, then he'd have my support.

When are they going to implement the improvements to the A5 which includes a max speed of 40mph and traffic calming - as well as improved access for pedestrians and cyclists? The Ogwen Valley is spoilt by the noise from the few, mainly motor cycles who speed and shatter the peace.

And if those changes increase road dangers and more folk die?

Would you trade lives for peace in a welsh valley?
