i'm really not sure what to make of this... there's been a camera at this location ever since i moved here (several years). its clearly visible. its been 30 ever since i moved here.

the road width is generous, prior to the camera there are wide pavements & verges with a park on one side & the rear of houses on the other. there are street lights. beyond the camera is a junction with turn lane, ped crossing & shops with service road & car park followed by residential.

Quote:
The stretch of Binley Road the camera is on has a 30mph speed limit but further along it is 40mph.

hmm yes which in the direction the camera is pointing is a change from 30 to 40  ... and how do we know its a 40limit.. cos the signs are there to tell you (and going the other way yes there are 30 signs to indicate the change in limit).

did you notice the residential nature of the area? the even more obviously residential side roads with no marked change in limit?
i'm sorry but all the entry points into this 30 area are all signed.

is this a victory for motorists as advertised?
seems to me they are demonstrating their poor observation & lack of knowledge.

Is there street lighting on the 40mph stretches of road? If there is then I would say it is confusing.

i dont recall tbh.
i'll take a look.

the change to 40 is a good 1/2mile away! and only lasts for 1/2 a mile.
i think its a bit of a red herring tbh.

I've been through this one many times - yes there's street lighting but I could have sworn it was within the 40 signs. It is very confusing though & luckily I've always done 30 just to be safe.

what people fail to notice i think is that the a444 roundabout is already in the 30zone, so no signs on the way off it in that direction. you can approach it from 3 directions:

coming from the a444 50zone onto the roundabout the 30zone is signed approaching the roundabout.

coming from humber road you're already in an obviously residential 30zone which started 2 sets of lights back by the entry to the (ex) pug plant.

and amazingly coming from sky blue way the 30zone actually starts at the bottom of sky blue way off the ring road roundabout (no really!).
(for those that dont know the area sky blue way is a short section of 2lanes each way with pedestrian barrier down the middle.. oh and some lovely planters  but is actually quite tightly pinned by residential).
