I see some of the Camera Squads are now calling themselves Casualty Reduction Partnerships
This gives the impression (illusion) that they have other interests in road safety apart from camera enforcement.

When the figures look good at camera sites (regardless of the reason) they go for a big press release. When the figures look bad (as they often do) they remain very quiet.

It seems like steeling the thunder of other road safety initiatives is now their prime directive.

Perhaps they now employ image consultants.

Politics at it's most sinister..

The change in name is no great surprise to me. Does everyone remember when "speed cameras" were renamed "safety cameras"?

I think this was a prime example of political spin being used in an attempt to divert attention from their fund raising activities and possibly con some more gullable people into their acceptance.

Where I live in Northumberland, there is a supposedly "independent" university professor who was paid over £40,000 last year and was provided with software costing over £10,000 to enable him to engineer figures to make them publicly acceptable.

According to their own annual figures, this was just another £50,000 spent on road safety!

That's really bad.

I'm involved in the BikeSafe Scheme which is run by the council and police casualty reduction officers. Both do an excellent job, but I would drop out tomorrow if I thought people would assume it was scamera funds paying for it.

Sadly even if the council had a scamera partnership, they would not fund bikeSafe as 'it is not about speed reduction'.

that is really what they mean by 'road safety initiatives'

They seem to have started calling road works 'safety works' as well.

Kind of like McDonalds renaming french fries to 'Freedom Fries.' Or like Orwell's 'Ministry of Truth.'
