Are we fighting a losing battle? This government seems to be determined to control the behaviour of drivers & driving in this country. Would another party be any different?

What with the nanny state, Speed Cameras, both fixed & mobile, now GPS tracking & speed limiters, is it just a matter of time before we become "robots" in effect, and in turn not actually reducing the number of casualties.

Any thoughts?

(I hope this is in the right part of the forum).

The three main parties are all paying lipservice to restricting cars in one way or another.

The Tories are lead by a man who likes big cars but can't say so (high integrity, eh) and has to "put up with" a Lexus Hybrid for the sake of the environment. Pass the sick bag.

They will all go ahead with road pricing as it gives them contol over the population. This is the real reason for ID cards as well.

Just take a look at the "trustworthy" people in the newly reshuffled cabinet. Losers. Blair will hand over to Brown who will then proceed to be defeated by Blue Labour.

... and the pigs looked at the humans and the humans at the pigs and they were all the same. (apologies to G. Orwell)

As the time gets nearer I can see a situation emerging far worse than the Poll Tax protests/riots of 1990

I have to agree too,
even if we all went out tomorrow and chopped down all speed cameras, overturned the scamera vans and marched the SCP staff at pitchfork point to the nearest lampost, the government would just bring in new laws to make us all terrorists the next time we did it - just like the fuel protests (although I think there may already be laws about lynching people).

The fuel protests worked really well and the government was really scared. Now with the new laws, even with petrol approaching a quid a litre, if the same thing happened again the protesters would end up doing 30 years for terrorism.

The SCPs should be done for terrorism, their whole existance is "control by fear"

SCP - and we hear tales of highwaymen being hung at the roadside to warn others of the consequences :?

All that will end up happening is the entire country will simply end up rebelling, and once that happens then the government will be well & truly f*cked.
Sure there will be casualties as there is in any revolution, but it shouldn't be too much of a problem as we already know that the soldiers have to provide their own bullets for weapons that don't work properly to start with

I think ANY cause worth fighting for, by it's very nature will be hard work. If it was easy, chances are it's not a worthwhile cause.

I think that we need to keep up the pressure at the national level, but also work on the little local battles such as this one:

Juging by the idiots speeding, talking on mobiles whilst driving ect ect ect they arn't contoling drivers enough.
As for toyota hybrids, what's so wrong with cars that dont accelerate like f1 and save the planet.

MOre cameras, more contol, speed limiters and more banned drivers.
I'd vote for that!!!

Leccy's don't save the planet. They have to get their juice from somewhere!

Being as you admitted being caught for speeding, would you now happily hand back your licence?

You suspect wrong! You'll find the great majority of us regulars have never been done for speeding - myself included :)

Ditto, but then what was that tsm said that time? Oh yes:

Quote:
Driving out of Nottingham usually drive out at 5pm, crawling all the way on this occasion I came out at 8pm there was no traffic and I thought the road was a 40 mph, it had been changed to a 30 mph so I was caught by the fixed point to fixed point cameras

In the last lot of fuel protests there was talk of getting the troops out, I'm guessing to try and scare the protestors. Had that have happened IMO it would have spelled the death of this government.

save the planet how? they still burn fossil fuels. by contrast a ferrari run on biofuel would be zero-pollution.
