A conversation on Pistonheads recently prompted me to write:

Good drivers are always worse than they want to be

And I though it'd be nice to use a few such 'truisms' or slogans to make the Safe Speed campaign appear a little more positive. We know we're positive, but most of the time we're complaining about policy or bad figures or something and that's rather negative.

One good one is :

Safe driving is no accident which is great, but probably a little too well known. Worn out even.

Any suggestions for slogans or truisms about being a safe driver?

Safe driving - Don't leave home without it!
- Easy when you know how.
- Is making our roads safer.
- Driving the message home.
- Just Do It!
-

Apologies Paul. I think Saatchi & Saatchi will be safe.

Driving by numbers does not make you a safe driver any more than painting by numbers makes you Leonardo Da Vinci

mY TUPPENCE WORTH :D
Never admire a government for how strong they appear, but only for how they use their strengh.

To know others is great wisdom,
To know yourself is true enlightenment

To speed, you must find the right time for your overtaking

The wise government teaches, not by what they say,
but by what they do.

Speed is always the goal of the way forward,
but the way is never easy.

The government who speeds at the limit,
has no place to go, but off.

(all due repects to LAO TZE chinese philosipher, and apologies to him for changing a few words of his great teachings)

I like it - or on a mirror.

And I'd prefer 'Safe driving starts here'.

Thinks: Safe Speed corporate gift.

It'd be a shame that you could read the text while not seeing your reflection (by looking in the mrror obliquely). Perhaps it needs to be a mirror with slats or a mirror with a tube or an open box on the front?

On reflection, it's probably just an idea. :hehe:

Not entirely on the topic of this thread, but I've been thinking...

It is possible that speed cameras make some bad drivers better, but it is certain that speed cameras make many safe drivers worse.

Any comments or improvements?

Both good, well done. I like the structure - catchy, memorable and versatile.

Here is a variation:
It is possible that some people think that speed cameras improve road safety, but it is certain that many of these camera supporters would be less convinced of their contribution to road safety if they investigated the facts critically, thoroughly, and with an open mind. Road safety is a matter of life and death, and deserves to be taken seriously.

The cartoonist, Carl Giles, himself an amateur rally driver in a Jaguar XK140 with four Monte Carlo medals and two Alpine Cups always stated:-
"There is no such thing as a dangerous fast driver - they don't live long enough..."

Some other ideas:-

Speed does not kill - insufficient skill does...

Drive within your limitations - if that's no good, use the bus...

A bad driver below the speed limit can hurt you in so many more ways than a good driver above it...

You only begin learning to drive once you have passed your test - and it is a life-long course...

Never get into a car with someone who claims to be an 'above-average' driver - they usually aren't...

A ticket from a Traffic Officer comes with some very good advice that may, one day, save your life. A ticket from a Gatso is just another bill.

The motor car - the only truly effective Public Transport system that runs on time, every time...

And finally;-

If we can completely halt Global Warming, you will be reading this under fifty metres of glacial ice...

8-)

I do like this one MGBGT:-
Quote " Speed does not kill - insufficient skill does... "

may I suggest:-

"Speed does not kill - Mistakes Do."

Both these are easy to remember the best in my humble opinion:-

Quote "A ticket from a Traffic Officer comes with some very good advice that may, one day, save your life. A ticket from a Gatso is just another bill. "

Quote "The motor car - the only truly effective Public Transport system that runs on time, every time... "

Good one to put on a coaster! :)

edit: particularly if COAST is detailed on the reverse.
