Quiet area in Wales, "ArriveAlive" mobile van, my first ever points for speeding in 13 years of driving :/
What's the usual damage for this offence? I'm guessing 6 points and a couple of hundred pounds?
Is there anything I can request to ensure they've dotted the i's and crossed the T's ? (clutching at straws I know!)
Not signed NIP or anything yet, literally just read it, is the best course of action to just accept punishment and be done with it?
Thanks.

If the material you've received includes a "conditional offer of fixed penalty" then you will just be in for the standard 3 points + £60 fine.

No :(
Just says on the footer "NOTE: In certain circumstances it may be decided not to prosecute but to offer the alternative of a fixed penalty. You will be informed of the decision in your case."
I'm guessing that could go either way then. I suppose best course of action is to be a good boy and return asap and hope they give me fixed pen...

Just a thought, may be worth asking a few questions, if they think you’re going to fight it they may then offer a fixed penalty. Have you been back and made sure everything is in order, signage etc?

No, the best course of action is to use your 28 days to find out as much as you can.

The correct way of doing things is to send out a NIP first and a FPN when they know who the driver is. Some SCPs cut corners by assuming the RK will be the driver and send both out together.

48 in a 30 would normally be FPN. They are just trying to scare you.

Only 3 points? That seems rather light for that amount over?

That depends on the location. Has the speed limit been reduced lately?

Bumsticks, Just curiosity, has this road always been a 30 mph limit?

The usual yardstick is 25mph over the limit goes to court.

It does seem a lot but it depends how realistic the 30 limit is to start with. I guess the guidelines take into account that most 30 zones where speeding is likely are set by default rather than according to conditions.

According to the ACPO guidelines, the usual threshold for court proceedings is 50 in a 30.

The rules were changed at the end of last year for a sliding scale. You will more then likely get a FPN but very unliklely that it will be 3/60

Here is a breakdown of teh guidelines used for FPN.

No, those are guidelines for sentencing in a Magistrates' Court. If you accept the fixed penalty and don't go to court it will still be a flat-rate £60 and 3 points. The government are bringing in "graduated fixed penalties" in the current Road Safety Bill but they haven't come into force yet.

Dear Bumsticks

48 in a 30 seems a bit over the top to me. I do have much sympathy for those thumped at the lower ends but this is bordering on recklessness, unless, of course it is one of those unannounced limit reductions. It's a favourite trick to reduce 40 and 50 limits to 30, change the signs at the start, (which can easily be missed) and then just remove the repeaters. My brother, one of the slowest drivers on the planet was thumped this way with 40 reduced to a 30 but without any advance notice. Here in Cheshire to their credit, they do usually put up notices . (not much "credit" for the SCP, mind you, so they probably don't like this)
