En-route southbound last night on the road called "Meadowhead" (A61) at its junction with "Charles Ashmore Road", local South Yorkshire thieves were operating a speed trap.

For those elsewhere in the UK, 'Meadowhead' is around 70' wide at this point with further 25' or so pavements. The limit is 30. unatainable during the day (too much traffic) but inadequate at night, when the limit should be 40 IMHO.

No doubt lots of customers last night.

The real true joy I get from watching these wankers do this is the certainty that they are merely speeding up their own end. Sooner or later they will fuck off enough people through their legalised thieving antics to bring about a change in policy.

Any chance of finding out who are the ELECTED members of the South Yorkshire Scamerati?

But what if little jonny was playing by the side of the road while his parents were in a pub getting p*ssed.

It would be all your fault

I thought that the mobile cameras didn't work in the dark, or have things moved on nowadays?

Who said they didn't work in the dark?

The only requirement is that you see the target through the view finder as far as I can tell.

Well, how can they read your number plate? Surely the camera would need a huge floodlight attached to it so that it could actually read the plate of the car that it was filming.

I have seen a "stills" taken from a mobile camera in the dark. Showed head lights in the distance but the numberplate bright as day as the car came close.

There were street lights nearby.

Interesting. So do mobile cameras work in areas without street lighting?

They must work in the dark 'cos the essex scammers hide (I know where you hide if your reading) on the A127 of a friday and saturday night on the north side of the A127 in a field gate. Just need some cow SH one T dumped there or an obsolete piece of equiptment to block the gateway. They do this to catch Darren, Wayne and friends, so they must be able to see through neon strip lights too.

Now that's interesting.

Imagine if such technology could be put to the nobler cause of aiding drivers to see better at night in the face of oncoming headlights.

Cheers
Peter

Interesting -- but how do your vans comply with the visibility requirements in the dark?

"fluorescent" means that the object gives off light (of its own) Does this mean that the van literally glows in the dark? That would look quite impressive!

Or maybe you mean reflective?

I know, I know... People just don't seem to see you until it's too late for them to avoid your invoice in the post.

Could be that they really aren't looking for you though, eh????

They're those people paying attention to the road itself rather than looking for the hiding places and haunts of those whose calling card is emblazoned "Stand and deliver".

Get the thieving in now - before the P45s come out

Excuse me, but that's just rubbish. It sounds more like a description of 'day glow' which is an example of a use of material with fluorescent properties.

Here's what the Oxford English Dictionary has to say:

fluorescent Having the property of or emitting fluorescence; pertaining to, resulting from, or of the nature of fluorescence.

fluorescence Electromagnetic radiation emitted by certain substances when they are subject to incident radiation (esp. violet or ultraviolet light or X-rays), electrons, or other particles; the property of absorbing light of short (freq. invisible) wavelength and emitting light of longer (visible) wavelength.

Brilliantly coloured indeed! Humph. Perhaps the Americans don't know any better... :)

Ah but if the drivers eyes are focused on the most import thing for road safety then they won't see you will they? I am of course talking about the speedo.
