(almost) summed up by this magnificent photograph of Endeavour docked with the ISS. Only one more flight before the west abandons manned space flight.

Is it just me, or does the Space Station look like it was built on Scrapheap Challenge?

I downloaded it full size by the way - very impressive when you remember it all had to be hauled into space with tons of rocket fuel and bolted together in a "vacuum".

I have always felt that the greatest set back to Manned space exploration was the fact that the Americans got to the Moon first! If the Russians had beaten them to it things might have been very diferent by now!

The greatest setback to manned exploration is that it is impractical.
And expensive.
Reading the amount of work needed to shield astronauts from radiation on the trip to/from mars, and during the stay, a conclusion could be drawn that it is pointless.
Even being in orbit can lead to large radiation exposure.....

56 years after it was decided it was needed, the Bedford Bypass is nearing completion. The last single carriageway length of it.We have the most photogenic mayor though, always being photographed doing nothing

Lets hope that more joint ventures into space will result in ever more united efforts.
I cannot see this massive effort being totally wasted as it would make no sense whatsoever.

A great shame.

The technological advances inspired by the space program made it worthwhile.
