They go to the registered keeper, so in my case thats my father.

He moved and hasnt changed his address yet, my question is.

In this hypothetical circumstance what would happen?

I recieved a NIP for something ( speeding, red light etc) and it went to his old address as the registered keeper, but he didnt see it (hes renting it out) and he 28 day period went by.

Would the failure to furnish be his offence or mine.

Im asusming its the duty of the registered keeper yes?

Thanks

Rob

You are correct to say that it would be your fathers responsibility to deal with the first NIP within the 28 days. It is also his responsibility to inform the DVLA of his new address. A more interesting question (to me at least) is why are you driving a car registered to somebody else at an address neither of you lives at? I sincerely hope its not as part of an insurance fiddle.

No its because he cant seem to get round to changing it being very busy with 3 kids . However Im fed up with having to ask him if anythings ever come through, so trying to make sure its done by this month.

I dont think I'd be asking a question on here like that if it was :P

It might help him to get a move on if you tell him its an offence not to inform DVLA. two offences in fact - one for the car and one for his licence. If that doesn't work try pointing out that if he gets a NIP and is too late to reply within the 28 days, that attracts 6 points.

My comment about the insurance was posted entirely in your interest. In court and all over the internet on motoring forums, I see lots of people who thought it was legal to register a car in a parents name and insure themselves as a second driver, when in fact the older person has little or no access to the car and rarely if ever drives it.
