Just noticed this one .

So he was around 20mph faster than was legal, and he was let off because he said he thought he was driving safely, and was observed doing so (driving safely) over a 2 mile stretch of open motorway.

Dont you think that this was a lot fairer and better than the methods employed by PC Gatso.

Trouble is that wont earn you your xmas bonus ian

Unfortunately we do have to be seen to perform, and to be able to evidence this. This is of course entirely reasonable, as you good tax payers want performance and value for money.

Trouble is, certainly on our patch, you get 'nil points' for the educational 'acid lecture'.

That does not bother me in the slightest, and good supervision (which we have) will look for a balanced proportionate performance.

But give me a tenner for every speed ticket I ussue, botach, a good scotsman like me would soon have speed limit compliance on my patch! 8-)

Trouble is Ian, lecture whether acid or not often alerts drivers to faults , and saves lives, probably more cost effective than the output from gatso. All he says is "too fast, too fast"., doesent consider the circumstances. The bit bout bonus was a sarcastic swipe at the idea that policing (specially your type) should be about profit and loss on paper - or should you show a profit.
If one of you pull me up to slap my wrist , at the end of the day ,ticket or no ticket, i'll have had an objective view of my faults, not just a ticket with no reason .
Speed limit compliance - i could think of nothing more boring going up M6/M74/A74 than sitting at 69.9.Would think that you would have more accidents than enough.
I try to drive fast enough to get places safely, and slow enough not to attrect attention from you/colleagues.
In other words, old fashioned policing ,done correctly , pays for itself - does society put a price on a life.
