ok more detail here

Quote:
Peterson testified Thursday that he and Stoehr were riding side by side toward Sunset Boulevard about 30 mph. After a car honked behind them, Peterson said, he pulled in front of Stoehr. The car passed them, missing his handlebars by less than a foot, he said.

Peterson said Thompson yelled for the pair to "ride single-file." Peterson said he screamed an expletive at Thompson, who then swerved in front of the cyclists and "slammed on the brakes" to a complete stop.

Quote:
Four months earlier, another cyclist got into a scuffle with Thompson, the prosecutor alleged.

Patrick Watson testified that he and a friend were cycling down Mandeville Canyon Road in March when they heard a fast-approaching car behind them. Watson said he moved in front of his friend to get out of the way.

"The car was so close to me I had to jump the curb. I thought it was going to hit me."

Watson said he veered back onto the road to avoid a drain, and then the car's driver "slammed on his brakes . . . directly in front" of him and his friend. Both cyclists avoided running into the car.

Sauce for the goose... If you drive into the back of another car then it is almost certain that you are to blame for not leaving enought seperation. Surely the same logic applies to cyclists. They must have been riding very close and at considerable speed if they couldn't stop or ride round the car and hurt themselves badly.

i can't disagree with that...... but the fact the sharp braking appears to have been a deliberate act to "teach them a lesson." is surely of note ?

i mean if a car is tailgating you..... would you consider slamming the anchors on as a safe option ?

I have been in umpteen cat-fights on the PH site over the odd muppet who posts that he would "brake test the tailgating moron". My view has never changed .. as in

NEVER EVER DO SO!

But then I do not know in what manner this person made a foolish comment to the police. Was he being sarcastic perhaps - when asked how it happen?

But then I read Ed's further finds on the story.

I do not know if the person has had some bad experience in past which make him behave in way as described. Did the first cyclists report him? Und if so - why was nothing apparently done back then.. such as a visit or letter from police to issue a warning over such behaviour if no tangible proof such as an SI as in the second case. Action at that point would perhaps have prevented the second incident which could have been a lot more serious in terms of injury.

Ist there any evidence of raod rage against pedestrians or other drivers - as such a rager would be just as raging towards others who "get in his way"

he might've just overtaken the cyclists and slammed his brakes on.

Which is exactly what the doctor told the police officer at the scene.
