lol , Lucy, it wasn't me in the Honda, I was in my MR2 today but it wasn't far from the lilleshall sports centre that you mentioned the other day. I was travelling from newport to telford and turned off near a place called lilleshall

Perhaps it was a MR2 and I didn't have my glasses on.

I don't mean you JB! You're perfect as you are. I mean all those other chumps who think there should be no speed limits. Do they think at all, or is complaining just a hobby for them?

Nobody here (except the odd numpty) would suggest that there should be no speed limits. Everyone here knows that enforced limits are needed (except for the occasional troll who's just making trouble for the sake of it).

I was just going to say there should be no speed limits...........but i've just changed my mind

OK, so by degree is a driver who's travelling at 70mph and smacks into the back of a pile up on a fog bound motorway a numpty?

I would have gone for "dangerous idiot" rather than numpty myself

Not a numpty, but certainly an idiot.

The numpty would have left their foglight on for a week after driving in the fog though.

We had a really foggy day this week, most of the numpties must have noticed because they had reduced there speed to a nice 20 MPH so obviously the "reduce your speed in dangerous conditions" message had got through to them but somehow the "put your lights on in adverse weather" message hadn't!!!

Up until 1965, the only limit to speed was 30mph where street lights were 200 yards apart or less..... :D

40 mph and 50 mph limits were also in existence before then - although most 40s were on high-standard streetlit roads that had originally been 30s.

As opposed to most numpties that put their rear fog lights on at the slightest hint of fog, and leave them on whilst sitting at junctions with somebody behind them, it's like "yes, I can SEE YOU!".

I know motorways had no speed limit up til early sixties but I can believe that most other roads didn't!

This is a very long thread and I appologise if this numpty trait has been mentioned before - and thats pointless rear window signs.

E.g. Today I followed a car that said "Baby on Board". So what? I assume they want me to back off to avoid a rear end shunt after I have tail gated them in order to read it as I wasn't wearing my glasses.

I was wondering if someone can make me a sign that says "I haven't been blesssed with children but nevertheless don't want to be on the recieving end of a rear end shunt"?

I personally think the ones who scream past me on a motorway in slight mist doing at least 90 (only a guess, but passing me when doing 65-70 like I ain't moving), but they have rear fogs on!!!

So what are they saying? I apreciate the visibility is limited, so to combat this I will drive stupidly fast so you can't rear end me. But to make absolutley sure, I will turn on the fogs?????

A short sharp shock of fog cameras would do it.

I'm serious, camera dishes out three points to anybody with a fog light on if the fog is less dense than "can't see you hand in front of your face", I think I've only ever seen a fog in the UK that requires a rear fog light twice, IIRC that's less than 100m visibility, that's a pretty serious fog.

I admit that would be petty fogging (groan), but it does get my goat.
