There is a big spin campaign being put out on this by the DfT because the Government really doesn't want to be seen to back off on this like it did on the 10p tax. If they had any sense, all they need to do is announce that these changes won't be retrospective further back than the last set of changes (March 2006).

Still, they might think that it doesn't matter any more as they will lose the next election anyway. Might as well soak the public to cover their pensions when they get booted out.

The most annoying thing to me is all the useless BBC interviewers who didn't ask Angela Eagle if she realised the tax was one on ownership of cars rather than CO2 emissions. The tax doesn't reduce if you drive less and emit less pollution, does it?
