Oooooo, the irony....
More years ago than I like to remember at times (I don't really feel any older or any different to be honest .. apart from when trying to discipline my own kids anyway ..

) .... had the lovely job of "directin' traffick" when with the Met
Had all four crossroads at

and all were looking at me as if to say.. "well c'mon .... yer dozy so and so!"

Was just about to beckon forward one set of drivers.. when .. along comes the lady on the pram who places the pram in the road way and stands flush at the kerb .. "obviously looking out for traffic". I paused all traffic... beckoned her across and she just kept on waiting
I went up to her and asked .. "Madam.. are you waiting to cross?" She nodded and stated she was waiting at the kerb so that "I could let the traffic go first!"
I replied that this was just a little difficult as her baby was right in their path!
She honestly did not realise and went bright red when I pointed this out to her. She was all embarrassed when she actually admitted that she did not realise she had pushed the pram so far out.
I simply escorted her across and smiled and shrugged whgat I hoped to be sympathetic shoulders at the drivers to let them know I had not forgotten they were also "in an 'urry to continue!"
I suppose a new and rather young mum like that one may not be quite so aware that her pram does protrude quite a way in front of her
