But it always does come back to speeding!

The British public are so indoctrinated that a 7 year old girl is riding an off road quad on a public road and some yokel blames the speed of traffic on the lane!

Not under age, lack of training, instability of a quad bike, poor lights... speed. then they arrest the qualified driver that she crashed in front of and breathalised her.

You deserve the road death stats as bad as they are if you support the gatso culture.

Sorry, I'll put my lead and muzzle back on. :hissyfit:

It always comes back to speeding becasue there are too many morons who have no respect for speed limits or the safety of the public - all those so-called safety groups that are extremely thinly disguised pro-speed organisations and have hate campaigns against anyone who has any concern at all for public safety. Plus, so-called 'programmes' like 'top gear' with (cretin) clarkson, (moron) may and (theres nothing wrong with speeding - whoops - Ive just crashed AGAIN) hammond promoting selfish & dangerous activities. anyone who is against public safety is too thick to be allowed to drive.

Hello GF and welcome to SS, but please don't be such an ass.

I'm sure we can find some things to agree on, and we'll do the best we can to resolve other matters. Have another think about things, and we'll chat later, eh?

Best wishes all,
Dave.

I am a motorist, but with at least one BIG difference to the majority of motirists - I RESPECT the law and public safety - I KNOW that the faster someone drives the bigger danger they are, unlike the moronic pro-speed, top gear loving idiots who seems to think (if they are capable of thought) that speed limits don't apply to them. don't forget, that prat of a racing car dirver, lewis hamilton, got himself banned for deliberately ignoring speed limits in France. all you speed feaks - GROW UP and start using you collective brain cell.

I guess you can't see the irony of your post!

Are you here to debate or just to have some 'keyboard warrior' fun?

I would venture to suggest that rational debate is not the intention of someone who "KNOWS".

OK, so you're still determined to be an ass then, in which I'll bother with you no further.

Best wishes all,

I am beginning to wonder is "GF" either "weepej" under a pseudonym or is he / she Son or Daughter of "Weepej" as the rhetoric appears to mirror "weepej"      :? :? :?

This is a distinct lack of coherent and cohesive statements the same mould as "weepej" :!:

"Weepej" STILL HAS NOT ANSWERED the question about where he / she got the information about "Everything" with regards to NSL (or No Speed Limits) is the question to hard for "Weepej" to comprehend or understand :?: :?: :?: :? :? :?

I don't think posters should be too quick to jump on weepej's case, he is far less deserving of disdain than some of the other new arrivals in these parts! Sure he has let a few pertinent points go unanswered, but that does not necessarily mean he has not taken them on board.

Yes, I'd second that. I don't agree with everything he says but at least there's sensible debate to be had.

If so many drivers don't respect the law and safety (and are thus not worthy) - and its a reasonable guess that the vast majority of drivers will break a speed limit on any given journey, then why isn't every street running with blood from endless RTA carnage??

The figures are too high, and a lot more could and should be done be done but clearly all of us not respecting the law and safety (your words) aren't having quite that bad an effect. So are we better behaved than you are suggesting....Or could it be that the widespread minor infringment of some driving laws isn't that dangerous?

As for Lewis Hamilton. Well given the choice between a ride with someone who has proved he knows what he's doing, and a ride with someone who thinks he's safe because the sign says so. :scratchchin: I'll take the racing driver, everytime.

Yes there was a need for that - unfortunately, there are too many motorists (and campaign groups) with no respect for speed limits or public safety - all they are interested in is getting cheap thrills by breaking the law and endangering innocent people at the same time. Until these morons start taking responsibility for their actions/emands, there will always, unfortunately be a need.

What is it about this campaign that makes you think that all it is interested in is 'cheap thrills by breaking the law etc etc etc'?

I really wouldn't bother with GF if I were you, Rigpig. It is quite clear from the exaggerated way he expresses himself that there's little chance of reaching a balanced understanding with him.

Whether he's a troll, or a wind-up merchant, or merely an idiot, it's surely a waste of time.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

Me an idiot? I've been looking through some of the insane rantings by the road-lobby morons and if I'm an idiot with my support of public safety, then I'd hate to think what any right-minded person (obviously NOT anyone connected with the road lobby) would call these idiots.
By the way - have any of you read what George Monbiot wrote about your founder? Very intersting indeed........

OK, can you link to any of these, er, rantings so we can all share what you've been reading then?

{Edit} - Dave - I'll keep trying to see if Mr Gatso's Forever actually has anything to substantiate what he is claiming or whether he's just another keyboard warrior.

Could you possibly be any more anti-car?

Those 'insane rantings' which were thoroughly were dissected in here?

It might have been this from monbiot'sweb site.

monbiot wrote:
All these people turn, as a final resort, to a man by the name of Paul Smith, who runs a campaign called Safe Speed. He’s quoted everywhere whenever there is a speeding story in the news. He claims to have found, through statistical analysis, that “speed cameras make our roads more dangerous.”(17)

In 2005, he challenged me to a radio debate. I accepted, and floored him with a simple question. Has he published his analysis in a peer-reviewed journal?(18) A peer-reviewed journal subjects new scientific claims to expert scrutiny. Without peer-review, those of us who aren’t experts can’t tell whether they are a work of genius or total hogwash. No, he hadn’t. In fact he had been asked by the leading journal in the field (Accident Analysis and Prevention) to submit his work for review, but he hadn’t taken up the offer as he didn’t “have time”. (He went on to boast that he had spent 10,000 hours compiling his website.) But he said he would seek to publish a peer-reviewed paper within six months.

I rang him on Friday to ask how he was getting on. “I never did see peer review as a particular need,” he answered. “I mean for heaven’s sake, there’s so much peer-reviewed crap out there that it’s just not a modus operandi for us.”(19) So just what is the status of his evidence? Beside the statements on his website, Smith lists “source, justification and links”. His central claim is as follows: “We simply don’t believe that a significant proportion of accidents are caused by exceeding the speed limit.”(20) If he cannot demonstrate that this is true, his entire case collapses. Its source, justification and links? He cites this and only this. “Pure opinion, based on considerable driving experience.”

Cut the crap, stop using "safety" as a facade for your hatred of cars, and tell us why you don't like cars. Let's try to have a vaguely interesting and new discussion, instead of you just restating tired, hopelessly vague, completely unhelpful "speed kills" type rubbish again and again. You know perfectly well that we've heard it all, and refuted it, a thousand times before.

Unless of course you're just trolling and attempting to take advantage of current circumstances, in which case carry on, and you'll get the treatment that you deserve.
