I've tried searching for a news item which I heard this morning on BBC1 breakfast news for the Midlands but I can't see any reference to it on their website.

I was half way through shaving and waking up but it went something like:

"the latest government statistics show ??? million pounds have been generated in speeding fines however there have been hardly any change in the number of accidents".

Did anyone else hear or see it?

It tells me that, if anything, the KSI figures is inversely proportional to the number of cameras - by their own admission.

You will be branded a threat to society by going over a speed limit where it is safe to do so, and suffer the consequences of your actions in a way criminals do not, more so than someone who is a real threat to our society.
