I have to say that IF the dangly thing is getting in the way, then the driver clearly is not looking after their own wellbeing, or that of other road users.

In this case, and assuming that the officer is aware that short drivers can see under some obstructions, while taller drivers might not, then I see nothing wrong with this.
The MOT tester should also bring this up if vision IS impaired, as with cracks/chips in the windscreen.

How far up the windscreen is your tax disc? If it's in the "swept area" it might be illegal!

I wish they wouldn't. I know to give drivers with dangles a wider than usual berth. How am I supposed to identify them so quickly if their dangles have gone?

I think I might even be about 40% serious!

Although I think it's a bit over-blown, I do have some sympathy. Unlike other obstructions (like tax discs and sat-navs) the "danglies" can move. I guess it MIGHT be possible to see your "dangly" move in your peripheral vision and mistake it for a pedestrian stepping out - or (much worse), mistake it for a pedestrian and carry on when there IS a pedestrian there!

Fit smaller windscreen wipers! Problem solved.

OK, having a "danglie" is not best practice, and any IAM associate will be asked to remove them. But is it really something that the police should be hunting down?

p.s. I am still absolutely floored by Paul's death. May 2008 be the greatest ever for SafeSpeed. His spirit lives on.

I dont think they should be "hunting them down" but if the opportunity presents itself, they should take action on ANY dodgy practice in a motor vehicle!
The press release does not automatically mean they actually intend to do anything more than usual!
It's a bit like the Indian computer virus!
