Hmm, are you sure its the camera?

Cars going over zebras with people waiting is a rather common occurance; I think many have it in their mind its an optional thing to stop for the peds.

Bad driver then aren't you?

If you can't maintain your speed without breaking the speed limit whilst being aware of what's going on around you how did you pass your test?

Perhaps you should slow down if you find it hard?

Liebchen..

Blackpoo's scams. They designed once to put bums on seats for Speed Course. Once upon time.. pings at just 33 mph as cut off for course was 35 mph. :banghead: They got skewed results of course.

We never have been pinged by the way... but we see the the flaws. We make some waves here. Or rather cousin Willi und his pals did  It result in some meet half-way given the level of protest in that course opened across entire range und tolerance marign increased to 10%+5 here  It fairer after all.

But .. it get a bit much. Golden Mile in the illuminations. We are crawling und the origin screech as constant as we hit one after the other.. all clustered together ,, but hidden in the illuminations too.

We note with some amusement that one scam placed at point in which villain of Coronation Street intent on murdering Rita Fairclough get hit by a passing tram. Bet's ear-rings shuddered as I recall  This also same place where Bianc-kaha had it away with Mar'in or wozzit Grunt :? even though engaged to Reeeekeeeee at the time

The only time these scam flash.. ist in wee small hours. when the chavs in their chavmobiles .. usually unlicenced are out und about. Sadly they collide with those staggering back to B&B after skinful of booze und ectasy tablets on hen./stag nights

We not saving any lives here really by automation. We need more cops out there really to solve Blackpoo's real problems. Speeding traffic not one of them given their level of tourism und associated problems here  No disrespect intended to Blackpool. We always enjoy bringing our kittens to wonder at the lights und play on beach und have some fun on the dodgems on the Pleasure Beach there. We have stayed overnight. Blackpool landladies serve up one yummy full Monty of British breakfast too  Und the rooms are cosy too.. We had the dodgy washer on the bath tap in the "en-suite".. along with the badly fitting wardrobe door .. but somehow .. an overnight stay in one of these establishments would be lacking without such quaintness

I know this Liebchen. I think he spinny's pal. He not spinny. He lucid  Besides . he use the quotes instead of cut/paste.

But no matter. I hope I polite or if I tease the troll n- he see it as "tease" und not insult.

Scams do not work. Merry Hughes show this. I admitted on the thread on the PH forum that I feel what we call "Schadenfreude" which accepted now in English  I admit this perhaps childish of me. .. but I cannot help it. Madame Guillotine also claimed the heads of those who set her up in first place too. Merry no exception.. und Dick will get caught out sooner or later too.

But if these top cops who know score cannot comply . then no one can comply 100% of time . und we thus need better lee-way when risk ist zero as probably was the case in reality when very skilled police driver called Merry Hughes did push the old envelope on that cracking piece of road which also notorious since 60s as revenue raiser  It not safety.. the road rather racy there  Always been a speed trap since before Tom Jones sang of the Green Green Grass of Home" per the locals per Cousin Marianna   who live in Brumstromia.

Chris,

funny you should say that, this is from one of my posts a couple of years ago

I pulled into outside lane as I saw one of the horse drawn carriages (don't get me started on these things Mad ) in inside lane. Lights on crossing changed to red so I stopped (horse thing was past crossing), so was first car at crossing. A couple of people crossed. Looked in nearside mirror and noticed a red escort approaching in lane 1, thought to my self that he isn't going to stop in time. I was correct - straight past the crossing (lights still on red). I noticed as he passed that his break lights were on, but as soon as he had cleared the white road markings after the camera, break lights went off. I wonder which saftey device he was looking at, Pelican Crossing or speed camera?

Ja.. :yesyes: We note this when we visit Blackpoo!

I admit I like the Fylde coast. I think St Annes/Lytham quintessentially English. Sunsets can be special on this coastline too. :cloud9:

But the general take-in of everything on road ahead? The hazard of the pony/traps there.. the trams. We see focus on the scams each visit .. with not one near miss with regard to scams but trauma avoided by sheer luck as scam obviously taken all COAST skills here :banghead:

From your postings I don't ever remember you mentioning what area you work in, but is there any chance that it is the Lancashire area. Its just that you mention the South 'beach', it just that to anyone from the area would call the south end of Blackpool as 'South Shore'. The council on the other hand in their 'master plan' for the redevelopment of Blackpool call the south end of the town around the Pleasure Beach - 'South Beach', or am I reading to much into your posting?

You astute here  I call it South Shore... but we also note how authorities refer

But we also "flashed" on Big One. They try to flog us photos showing us in moments of sheer enjoyment of "speed" We did bi=uy one for our family album. We were "feeling the speed with pleasure" per the photo :rotfl: Our foster .. Wayne looked ill :rotfl: In fact .. he was sick after this. :rotfl: We very amused :rotfl: as he supposed to be "'ard" :rotfl:

I just love the way Blackpool scammers are out and about on sundays with their mobile tax machines to get you after you have negotiated all the fixed cameras safely without killing any one crossing the road while you keep checking you have'nt absentmindedly crept over the 30 limit.

Favourite spot seems to be the Blackpool end of the road with Pontins on it.

But I like these hats.. there something so.. so.. so.. chav about them

But you not seen nothing like the tat we flog the tourists back home :rotfl: They really think we give them Appenzeller on National Day? :shhh: :jester: :loco: :bunker:

But it all a bit of fun.. part of the tacky tat culture. Consigned to box in attic or cellar or recycling dump  But we get the blackmailing photo first  Something to show the kittens' sweethearts  :boxedin:

I not like rock or mussels or jellied eels. but we buy for the kittens along with the candy floss und the roast chestnuts. It once per year. childhood? It so short. Once they hit 11/12 years.. we start to lose childhood. It so sad really. We replace with rabid hormones.. it also "interesting"..fun most of time .. but not quite as when they tiny all the same. :( :( :( My Mama did warn me. She right!

The approach in Blackpool is to drag the whole town's average speeds down. The slowest roads now are the very ones where many times of the day it's safe to go a bit quicker - so drivers crawl along a wide open road at 25 then carry on at the same speed or more down narrow twisty ones where 20 would be a better bet.

On much of the promenade the road feels like it's safe to go quicker but actually isn't - indeed it acts as a barrier between the town and the beach which is noisy, smelly (not just the horses) and intimidating.

[I just re-read that. I meant the road, not the beach!]

Personally I would support a seasonally-variable limit - e.g. in summer 20 from the Metropole to the Manchester, then 30 the rest of the route (Except near the Pleasure Beach) - but raise the whole thing to 30 / 40 as soon as the illuminations stop.

There's even a case for some pedestrian priority between Talbot Square and Coral Island, where lots of people want to cross along the whole length. A line of cars cruising along at exactly 30 is near-impossible to cross safely. We've got the technology for variable signage, why don't we use it and treat the driver with a bit of intelligence?

But then we couldn't have signs, bus adverts, and sanctimonious car stickers saying 'Blackpool is 30 or less - no need to speed'.

Regarding the zebra crossing - the real problem isn't just the speed camera, it's the closely-packed sequence of camera, junction, crossing. As an experienced driver / rider, my sixth sense kicks in, tells me there's too much going on, and I slow down - often to well below 30.

An inexperienced driver will instead concentrate on staying at 30 through the camera - note AT 30, not BELOW 30 - and only having negotiated that will he/she then begin considering the junction and crossing - by which time it's too late.

I think from a recent trip to the lights with our younger kids over their half term break that most cyclists in Blackpoo! think it "optional thing" to

1. stop for any red light - especially the pelican/puffins

2. stop at the zebra crossing.

Have it film as the foreign relative on visit was taking photos of the illuminations at the time. The cars were the ones which stopped.

:welcome:

I think you sum up the situation pretty darned well here  They would do far better re-engineering at this particular junction. By moving the crossing a few yards further along would reduce the danger at this spot. Even making this into a pelican crossing would perhaps be for the better. The scam at this point does very little to reduce the danger in any case as folk will check speedos first as they do  There are 4 scams along this road though and I suspect that they do brisk business late at night (not necessarily getting the cash in some cases per their local paper) or off season.

They always go for the roads which can earn a few bob - did so even when panda police on partrol, But we are not teaching towards driving up better standards all the same. Seems that the only message getting across is that "if you drive at a low speed - it doesn't matter if you hit them as this won't kill them!" :banghead:

:nono: It should always be about COAST as choice of safe speed to near enough compliance slips neatly into place if folk are actually observing and anticipating and planning their drives properly
