Driving along the M42 this morning I noticed the gantries had cameras over every lane. Given the information on this thread it sort of suggests that either only one lane camera is active at a time, or they are not working at all?

I'd suspect the latter as I've never seen one flash despite several hundred journeys on the M42 since the VSL opened. Anyone got any facts available on the subject?

Andy

Cameras over each lane? Or camera housings over each lane?

Could you tell?

What could you see?

i assume this is in the VSL section, already much discussed.

there are 3 seperate boxes, one for each lane, not sure about the hard shoulder. not quite on every gantry, but frequent.

never seen one flash. never heard of anyone getting nipped by them either on VSL or NSL.

can't quite remember what people managed to get out of the highways agency, if i recall, they weren't live initially and were only intended for enforcement of VSL. who knows what's going on now.

I could see housings, over each lane including the hard shoulder. I don't think they are empty housings that can have cameras installed as the gantriess on the M42 - unlike the M25 gantries - do not have any kind of access route (unless the M42 VSL management employ monkeys or climbers to change cameras).

There is a picture half way down this link: http://www.speedcam.co.uk/gatso6.htm

From what I understand the HADECS system is type approved for speed limits up to and including 60mph. I didn't read anything like "when operating singly on a gantry" like is a condition of the SERCO one (M25 random speed limit).
