Yeah, I think that's a critically important point.
So many of the road safety devices and initiatives that we have considered have 'negative side effects' that may well be bigger than the benefit.

Having only driven hired left hookers when abroad, by the time I've opened the passenger door, realised and walked around to the drivers side, and done the right hand handbrake and gear box thing I am pretty well sorted, some larger junctions take a moments consideration before proceeding.
Just a couple of thoughts, Not sure about the green tick and red cross, as in these days of box filling culture putting an X in a box is often an affirmative answer, and in the moment of greatest need (that moment of total blank/panic when you couldn't tell your own left from right) a driver may take a moment to take in the tick and X, could I suggest a simple green arrow as the main eyecatcher, the tick and X are great as a pre-start reminder, I just feel an arrow more effective in a moment of panic.
A great simple idea and as they say "if it saves one life" worth the price.
