Just a quickie!

Quite legitimate this one.

I was on the phone to the wife (hands free) a few months ago and the battery on the phone was on its last legs and the charger was in my other car. As women do, when talking on the phone, my good lady was in the bath and went to get out when I heard her scream and the phone went dead, not hers, mine.
In a panic I put my foot down to find a phone box to make the call when I saw this yellow person jump out in front on me and started waving like a mad man. Of course it was an officer and he clocked me doing 87 in a 50. I know I know but I think we would have all done the same…anyway as soon as I stopped I jumped out explained briefly whilst sound like a babbling wreck and asked to use his mobile. It turns out this simple action was the saviour, by him lending me the phone it seems the court (and he did book me in any event) saw this as confirmation that it was a real emergency and I was subsequently let off. Now it seems to me that if you were a little tinker and was stopped for speeding the same could be used at any time.

Now bearing in mind the officer didn’t check my mobile (why would he) to see that I was telling the truth all it would take is to turn the thing off in the event of….on top of this I guess you would need a partner in crime to support the emergency, wife, girlfriend/boyfriend, mate ect. but all I can say is it worked very well and you also get to claim costs for attendance. So remember the special circumstance line and make sure the officer is in Court to "support" your defence.

Greeny.

Are you suggesting that people perjure themselves?

If this was the case in your situation, I think you should consider yourself very lucky that the wheels of justice have turned in your favour; it is seldom the case, by all accounts, that the spirit of the law is enforced in this fashion, more that 'they' will get you for any little thing they can (speeding is, after all, a strict liability offence).

With that said, I do not think you should be advocating others lying about a similar situation in order to evade punishment for offences they have committed. If people start taking liberties with a 'likely story', then those who genuinely find themselves in that situation, as you did, will no longer be given the benefit of the doubt!
