Hi,
Received NIP a few days ago (with photographic 'evidence'):offence 40 in 30 zone. At the time, I'd been behind a car for about 5 mins that had itself braked unnecessarily 3 times and signalled incorrectly twice. I'm an Advanced Motorist for what it's worth and my record of 27 years unblemished driving history speaks for itself.
Because said vehicle was now tailgating public bus, I took the decision to finally get out of his way as we climbed a hill. Since the right lane was clear, I overtook for a few seconds, signalled again, then settled safely in front of bus.
The hill climb began from standing start at junction lights, so I'd barely time to accelerate to 30 never mind 40! The so-called 'Safety' Camera van was on the brow of the hill opposite: something I only discovered as I passed it!
Stupidly, I filled in the NIP as requested but better sense took hold and I've not as yet sent it back. I've just found this forum.
Do I request a new NIP (first was posted to me without recorded delivery!), then delay as much as possible, then send that back unsigned?
Is that the best tactic here in Scotland where recent reports have shown road deaths have actually increased, despite the so-called 'safety effect' of these questionable devices?
Many thanks
