Hello all,

Today i was silly enough to allow myself to be possibly caught my a mobile speed safety camera (or what have you!)

I wont give excuses as i know i was just being lazy by not monitoring my speed correctly.

To cut a long story short :

I was traveling up hill and on the opposite side of the road to the mobile speed camera. The mobile traffic camera was facing up hill. If it was to of caught me speeding, it would of had to cross 2 lanes, as i was in the third away from it.

The only snap it would of had would of been rear.

Are they able to monitor traffic from both directions?, what are the odds of me being caught.

Regards, Wayne

if you were doing an indicated 48 on your speedo, chances are you were doing slightly less than that (they are allowed to read slightly higher than the actual speed you were travelling).

The lower limit for automated prosecution in a 40 zone is 46, so you only need to be a few mph out on the speedo to be below that.

You should wait until a nip arrives (or doesn't), if it does, the best advice is to go on to the pepipoo website and ask if the angle of the device would mean the NIP is invalid.

IIRC, the greater the angle, the lower the speed shown on the radar gun, so it works in your favour.

Thanks for your reply.

Im just annoyed with myself as im a usual safety first driver. Ive only been driving for 10months so as we all know within our first 2 years we have to be extra careful.

I passed the same spot three times in one day and only noticed it on the third passing. Im sure before hand i was doing an ok speed. Just now im questioning every move i did lol.

Thanks again.

Wayne

Wayne. Stick around mate, there's an awful lot here a new driver can learn.

First and foremost. You say you're normally a 'safety first' driver. Please don't be under the misconception that the number on the dial has any indication of 'safety'

Fingers crossed

Well - our van will monitor each direction. But depends on the margin allowed.

As handy says - more than likely your speedo will read 48 mph and a GPS would read perhaps 45 mph on most vehicles out there. Still a tadge illegal in reality of letter of lolly  but it might be the difference you need

If you did not notice it on the other trips - chances are it was not there. They are - er - mobile after all

Lot on this site as to how to improve skills and COAST techniques. Have a look through the "Improve Driving Forum/Near Misses Forum/Cycling" as lots of useful tips from various posters.

My own COAST explanation post/Hendon Notes have appeared popular in the past ...
