In last week's copy of MCN there was a 2-page ad stating that "£5,000 is the fine for making a false SORN declaration."
To my mind, that's totally misleading, as it's a fine of 'up to' £5,000. We all know how many people seem get the maximum fine for no insurance (not many), and I don't see this as being any different.
Knowing the ASA I want to get some more evidence together before I contact them to complain - preferably proof that fine levels are nowhere near this level, but I'm struggling to find any actual figures.
Anyone have any ideas? I've found a couple of FOI requests by googling, but the DVLA's response to requests for fine amounts is always "get lost", as far as I can see.
