Everybody on bikes!
By The Westmorland Gazette

A SPECIAL event to get people out cycling is coming to Staveley on Sunday.

Friends of the Lake District (FLD) has teamed up with Staveley-based businesses Wheelbase cycle shop and Hawkshead Brewery, for the Everybody on Bikes!' day to encourage people to get on their bikes.

The event is ideal for individuals and families who may need a little support, information, encouragement and reassurance about getting onto two wheels.

The day includes free graded cycle routes, free bike hire, opportunities to trial bikes and a free treasure hunt for families with an ice cream reward.

There will also be a marquee with information about cycling. Hawkshead Brewery is offering free Brewery Tours at 1.30pm, 2.30pm and 3.30pm, and ten per cent off all draught beers for those who arrive by bus or train.

Judith Moore, FLD policy officer, explained: "We want show people that not only is cycling a green way to travel, it can be fun too.

"It's great to be able to work with local business, like Wheelbase and Hawkshead Brewery, and give cycling a bit of a push."

The Everybody on Bikes!' day is one of the activities during FLD's Green Travel Month, which is promoting sustainable ways of travelling.

If you enjoy cycling and dont mind risking a little rain, or simply want to try some rain other than your local variety, then you could do worse than visit this event!
The ice creams are great - locally made, and the Hawkshead Brewery is well worth a visit - more so if you can get the wife to drive if you dont fancy the train journey!!

Unfortunately I shall be visiting the inlaws in Southport... but I already support the Brewery and just bought my youngest son a bike from Wheelbase - with a little help from the mother-in-law - hence taking our cycling to Southport!
