Hey :-)

First of all, i know its my fault... But i was trundling along this morning on the way to work doing about 44-45 in a 40, came around the bend and there was a mobile speed camera van. I obviously slowed down to just below 40 after i saw it. I didn't see a flash or anything, but i'm not naive enough to think that they all do.

I was just wondering, do these types of cameras normally flash? Is it dependant on lighting conditions? its quite a dark murky morning, but still plenty light for a half decent photo.

I'm hoping they normally flash, so i'm ok but we'll see... thanks :)

Hey you :)

The cameras used in mobile vans usually don't flash. They typically consist of a laser gun utilising invisible laser light and a bog-standard video camera.

Speedos usually over-read, typically by 2-3mph at an indicated 44-45, so your true speed may well have been around 42mph (you can confirm this with use of a GPS system, these being much more accurate than your speedo). Also, the SCP threshold would usually be set at a true 46mph for a 40 limit. The combination of these should result with you not being done.

Hey smeggy :)

Thanks a lot for your reply! Taken some of the weight off my mind, but i'll still be watching my post caerfully just in case.

Is a pretty nasty place for a camera, speed limit drops from 60 to 40 around the corner, it was visible about 10 metres after the first 40 limit signs. Not that its any excuse, but its still a pretty unforgiving place to put one :)
