Hi all

I have been trawling through the forum, trying to establish what type of photographic evidence specs camera produce but cannot work it out.

My vehicle was caught on the M6 j14 north bound staffordshire going over 90 mph in a temporary 40mph zone. I am quite certain that I lent my vehicle to a family member who has now emigrated, and I can prove this. I have put this down in my original NIP, and Staffordshire have replied that I can still change my mind and say I was driving.

I certainly want to go to court about this, but my concern is the kind of photographic evidence they have and does it show the driver. Can someone kindly help on this information?

Kind Regards

Wacky

Hey Wacky.

Specs cameras will record several black and white images of the registration plate and 1 colour 'overview' shot for a vehicle check. The overview photo is usually is poor quality, compounded by the reflection of the sky from the windscreen (seems like no polarising filter is used). Also, it is useless at night!

Go here: Speed Check Services and click on the 'SPECS presentation'
(no you don't need WinXP to view it  )

What do you think of the rest of the forum and campaign site?

Had a look at that SPECS presentation, and noticed on the GUI that there is a primary and secondary speed reading. Presumably this is their corroboration. I suspect that the image is passed through two different computers/processes in order to get these slightly different readings. Whilst this clearly builds in some redundancy, I fail to see how this is more reliable as evidence.

Smeggy thankyou for your advice, there were two incidents over the course of three days. One happened at night time and one during the day.

I hope the identification is correct for the day picture.

How easy is it to obtain photographic evidence, bearing in mind that I have already named a driver?

Kind Regards

Wacky

p.s. it is a great forum, I wish more driver's knew about them.

Given they’ve offered you the chance to change your mind, then I could only assume the door is still open for you to request the photos for the purposes of ensuring the correct driver is named.

I would take the view that as they are being ever so helpful     by offering you the chance to change your plea as it appears that you CAN PROVE your innocence then go ahead and prove you were not the driver in question   .

Another thing is to ask for the photos to (as they put it) identify the driver of the vehicle cos, as you say the genuine driver has emigrated and all you are doing is carrying out their wishes (and complying with the the law) to identify the driver in question. :) :) !

Incidentally you are complying with a genuine and legal request to trace the driver

As long as you are certain you ARE not the driver in question you are in the clear unless you were in North Wales where that lump of hypocrisy (Charles Brunstrom) resides he might decide to have this "CRIMINAL" extradited to face his heinous crime of exceeding the speed limit! :x :x

Ad Infinitum

Right photo is back, it is at 0100 hours in the morning, it shows a very dark image where it is impossible to make out if there is even a driver in the seat!

Can an enhanced version be admissable in court, as I clearly cannot identify the driver on these images.

Also, my uncle told me that he is insured on the vehicle and showed me a temporary cover note that he said he got from the a broker. Do I really have to give insurance details as I clearly believed he was insured and has no reason to lie to me. I am going on the lines on me knowingly permit somebody to drive as I believe him but cannot who the insurers are.

Thanks

Wacky
