I've not and I must say, I really enjoyed it.

There is something deeply satisfying about looking at dead speed cameras

thats my new favourtite website. used to use the mentioned noutorious A40 london-cheltenham a fair bit so I'm aware how most of the cameras are mostly out of action most of the time. they had one photo, i've driven past 6 neutered cameras in a day on that road, so one can only imagine how many of these things get it.

The first two pics on that site are of the same camera -knowing the area -it's surprising that it was set on fire - i'd more expect to find the camera, post and all removed

What percentage of the 6000-odd camera sites have suffered from one or more acts of vandalism resulting in major repairs being required, I wonder.
Then there are the mobile camera sites where some rather naught persons have spread loads of roofing felt tacks to stick in the scam-van tyres. I know of one site where that has happened near to where I work and the van now parks somewhere else.
The worm is turning.

Interestingly, I know the guy responsible for www.speedcam.co.uk , and in the flesh you would hardly think butter would melt in his mouth ;)

After wondering about most hit camera in Britain comes an article in todays Sun --seems a camera at Flax Burton ,near Bristol ( if the Sun is correct) has been - set on fire five times, rammed by a heavy vehicle and hit by a JCB.( and the article goes on it's not one of Capt Gatso's favorites either).

Avon andSomerset's view "its an act of mindless vandalisn , carried out by criminals "

Touch of pot and kettle ,me thinks.

The Safe Speed campaign official position on speed camera vandalism is as follows:

- We do not condone speed camera vandalism in any way shape or form.

- We urge local authorities and camera partnerships NOT to waste life saving resources replacing vandalised speed cameras.

- Camera vandalism is the extreme version of the general public response to speed cameras. The devices are hated, and with good reason. They do not save lives and their side effects make road safety worse.

Quite agree - like Caeser's wife , we must be seen to be reproach.
But the third picture on that site shows how easily frustration could easily boil over - the picture is of the camera on the A5 at the Redgate junction (A5/A444) facing toward Hinckley - at first it was hidden behind a tree and the Junction sign .Despite improvements it is still poorly sited as to visibility , and despite being on NSL SC is set to catch unwary HGV drivers. A testimony to it's deadly effect on road safety is the fact that recently i noticed that the lines are partly obscured with black markings -presumably from panic braking --last i remember seeing mooted to cure this was a roundabout, but then again like on the A45( after the road improvements) - the cameras will remain to take the credit.
