Someone called "Howard" mounted a libellous attack on Safe Speed / me.

I decided to defend myself. Have a look at:

is that the Howard that goes on T2000's site? It's not as though people that ride bike are beyond critism. Riding on pavements, no lights, etc. They were complaing that some roads the traffic travels too fast. Som e roads are too fast for my low performance motorcycle, so I avoid them. Easy.

I have "met" the guy before, he is a tit. On any sane forum he would be banned as a Troll, his posts are always worded to incite an extreme reaction.

When actually pressed to back up his supposed facts he quietly changes the subject.

For example...

I've got different figures somewhere. Quote your source.

You never did get an answer to that, he (she/it?) just carried on with more spurious allegations designed to bring his fans on-side. I'm pretty certain I pressed him on the same question and got the same response.

I like the way he uses the words "very recently" then quotes something from over a year ago!

I did invite him to bring himself over here to join the debate but he declined the offer.

As for Cycling Plus I gave up on that place a long time ago, just the same old faces having the same old discussion, going round and round in circles. Most of the people there are actually quite sane, they are the quiet ones. Anyone who dares to offer a balanced view is labelled a child killing speed freek.

Over 3 years ago actually. The date format is year first. Why? Japanese software? Something deliberate?

Although these bun-fights are often amusing to read, they merely demostrate one thing: People will believe what they want to believe; particularly true of the more trenchant campaigners and vocal observers.
You're a tit, he's an idiot, they're mad etc etc. Does anyone read the 'evidence' presented by the other side for purposes other than to find a way to debunk it (as opposed to comprehend it and accept it?) I seriously doubt it.
Its entertaining though

Much as it grieves me to say it, the only foreseeable victor in a bun fight between drivers and cyclists will be cyclists, their buns being much firmer and tighter than ours.

Howard had better not come to my patch either.... we have been busy... Second thoughts ... would take delight in treating him to our most acid of roadside lectures!

Looking through the diaries this week .. copped 5 cyclists pedalling without lights, one ignoring a red light signal, and another caused a driver to swerve into a hedge. Breathalyser proved the driver was sober and the cyclist was one and half times above the legal limit and had been on his mobile phone at the time

Such fun ... they get even stroppier than drivers ....

But if we had a gut-barging contest...

I saw one yesterday morning cycling along the footpath opposite my house, not just on the footpath, but swigging from a can of lager at the same time,

Using the phrase "The Jehovah’s witnesses of speed"

could be construed as inciting religious hatred....

I had a look at the cycling thread, the situation to me appears that Paul and Howard have diametrically opposing views on the subject.
The difference between the two, is howard appears to have a God given veiw of things and will not stray from his views, be they right or wrong, whether or not he knows it.
Whereas Paul, forgetting about his knowledge and experience, is prepared to listen, present his case WITH evidence and reason, and if the situation arises, will change his mind about something if it is for the greater good of ALL road users.
I noticed another thread extolling the virtues of how to cycle faster, I have ridden bikes, and raced them, but I always remembered that bike brakes are nowhere near as efficient or effective as a motor vehicle brake.
So who ARE the speedophiles then?

Maybe you should go over there and point that out?! Then again....

However, you make a good point in that there are true cyclists (inc. the speed freaks - Lance Armstrong has made aliving from it after all), true safety conscious individuals, and then there are the social engineers who latch on to whatever cause going (Howard of the cycling fraternity and Basingwerk being cases in point).

I will give you three guesses as to who "Nice Tame Cat" is.... she is my sister-in-law and not sure if she is slightly zanier than my wife

She's all set to give Howard a run for his money ......my money is on the Nice Tame Cat ......

I had a look see .... wonder how long Krissi will last before they ban her ...

See Peter is also getting stuck in there too

Krissi (would not exactly use "tame" as adjective to describe her  ) made a post responding to the chap who allegedly responded to MMC's Indy article some Jolly chap ... she thinks he is none other than our Fanny W*nker apparently. (We briefed her as to what to expect.... Howard has gone a bit quiet.... and fumble is thanking her for a recipe for a Swiss roll   )

She even got the conversation onto orgasms at one point ....

She is my cousin ... am not responsible for her! Possibly a little wilder than Wildy even.....

From what I can gather ....the only thing they have hit back at her with is:

"Cars are crappy Throw rocks at them." This appears to be a chant over there .......

Am almost tempted to wade in there myself now  Full weight of the Law!

Bit of a weird place to visit. Krissi is having fun apparently...

I think Bimblywimblyfimbly (the one with the anger management problem and Tourette's syndrome) is probably our friend Fanny.

His obsession with Paul is a bit disturbing. Must have really got him rattled.
I can't figure out his motivation.

Sounds like that other barking mad cycling muppet refered to on this site a few weeks ago.

Another control freak with a major issues with anyone who "dares" to hold opposing views.

These are just the people who worry me, not only are they blinkered and think they are Gods own representative on this earth, but they are just the people that polli's listen to when they want new ideas.
Bit like having someone on the parliamentry transport committee who doesn't even have a driving licence.
