BBC Newsnight, Monday 18 December at 10:30pm, revealed how South Yorkshire Police, under Meredydd Hughes, of ACPO, are now, at last, to prosecute themselves for non-disclosure of a speeding driver.

Newsnight have found 14 cases where this has happened, but apart from one case they are now time barred.

So the system is finally decending into absurdity!

We now have the police prosecuting themselves for breaches of minor technical offences beacause they don't have the honesty and dignity to stand up and say that they got it wrong and cameras don't work!

What's next one part of the police force issuing pace statements to the other? Nick Freeman being hired by South Yorks but prosecuted by Gwent?

Shambles!

I tried to save it as a file, but that did not seem possible. I don't know if someone could at least make an audio recording, from which a transcript might be possible.

It does seem it would be possible to save it as an MP4 podcast once it is made available, but at present it has not been put on the website.

However, one does wonder why they didn't just elect to go to court and plead not guilty under S172(4).

Could it be ,that they don't want to remind the rest of us, that there is a valid defence in law?

That's just the next act of the farce. When the prosecutions start, so will the defenses be rolled out. You don't expect the cops in the spotlight to just lie down and take it do you?!

SPEEDING

Two months ago we revealed that police have been using their own"loophole" to cancel speeding tickets for their officers who have been caught speeding. This happened as Britain's top traffic policeman launched a crackdown on motorists who use legal loopholes to avoid convictions for speeding. After more Freedom of Information requests we have more news on this story. We'll be speaking to Britain's top traffic policeman live.

Twister, thanks for the audio recording. Can anyone recall the names and afiliations of the various people interviewed.

The original video stream in no longer available and it wasn't included in the video poscast, so it is no longer possible to go back and check and there are, in general, no prompts on the audio track.

Umm, if you install a Divx codec, you'll see it's actually a video recording...

Oops, yes I really must do that !!.
I thought it was rather a large file for just an audio recording.
Anyone recommend to an oldish fogey the best place to get this "Divx codec" thing.
Now let me think, where did I leave my Zimmer frame !!!

r11co, many thanks, it works fine, at least with Power DVD, though not with the Windows player, but never mind.

Having downloaded Twister's copy it is great to see Mr ACPO, Meredydd Hughes, put through the ringer again. It will be great to watch when I want to cheer myself up.

It should help to keep the senility at bay for a little while longer. Now for a nice cup of cocoa before I turn in.
