Did anyone else see the North West Tonight feature last night on the Westmorland hospital cutbacks?

Chap from the Trust said you could reach either Lancaster or Barrow hospitals within 42 minutes from anywhere in the current Kendal catchment zone.

Really? Who wants to try it on a bank holiday from Langdale or suchlike....

Especially if the ambulance follows BRAKE (or should it be BREAK  ) policy and doesnt exceed 20 mph at Waterhead

I've no doubt the cutbacks at Kendal will cost lives - we've got to keep campaigning.

During most days, I have a little difficulty making Ambleside Health centre from Staveley in less than 30 minutes - and twice during the summer, it was 35 minutes.
The section between Langdale Chase and Waterhead attracts drivers who are admiring the views instead of looking where they are going - and if somebody is wishing to turn into the Low Wood, then you can be looking at a premature death in the Ambulance.
I see the Gazette in a test which was more than fair, WITH a paramedic driver, and NO patient in the back, was still on the M6 after 42 minutes!

If you meet this lot, Ambulance or no, it's going to hold you up.
Image  This is most weekends at going home time - reverse is true earlier in the day as they all arrive.

We've been having this argument in Whitehaven for a few years now. Central government can't udnerstand why we need a hospital in Whitehaven and another one in Carlisle. The staff at Whitehaven are all really demoralised and in fear of loosing their jobs.

So if they get their way and close Whitehaven, there won't be much hope for anyone who needs urgent treatment in (say) Wasdale!
