I can't see how anyone could come to any other conclusion. What did he expect?

Due to the rather unsporting, antagonistic, almost libellous behaviour by that admin, I'm beginning to think this should be split into its own thread so referred readers can easily find our rebuttal.

I can't help wondering if the disparity in member numbers could be partly down to the Stanley Hill policy to new members

Perhaps Paul should instantly ban everyone except the first eight people that joined SS to try and get down to a more workable single-figure membership.....

Only one month into our project to alert drivers to the dangers of speeding on Stanley Hill and we’ve incurred the wrath of an extremist national organisation

er surely you mean posted on their website (as otherwise its unlikely anyone would have found Stanley Hill) and then refused to engage in debate (surely the purpose of forums) :?

Quote:
2857 members in its forum and we have 9

er so what...either your position is defendable or its not, the number of members a forum has shouldnt matter either way

Quote:
an attempt to infiltrate our forum and rule it by sheer weight of numbers (apparently a technique which has served them well in the past)

you could debate the points on here or you could allow one representative of safespeed to post on your site, at least if you debate on here you can be certain your posts wont be deleted :)

Quote:
publication of our address, telephone number and a map showing our house location

i think you will find that information was gathered from your website

Quote:
We’re avoiding naming the organisation – publicity will only encourage them – but it can be easily found by typing 'speed' and 'safe' into any search engine. The site is easily recognizable by the logo - the letters ‘SS’ in black, on a white background with red border.

excellent set of clues there that most people will solve very quickly...why not provide a link to this thread? otherwise other people wont be able to find it without an extensive hunt

Quote:
insulting comments about the site and the administrator

so what are you actually achieving with your site/campaign in real terms?

you have two cameras set up measuring average speed over a distance and taking a photo of the side of a vehicle.

So you can identify all vehicle speeds (assuming you have set the cameras up properly) but the first flaw in your cunning plan is that you are only taking photos of the side of the vehicle so cant identify the vehicles.

so the vast majority of passing vehicles (private cars) provide you with no useful information

that leaves signwritten vehicles that you can identify and then write to the organisation concerned

ok so lets see the results

gallery 1 16 june

8 vehicles identified and written to 1 response

gallery 2 19 june

8 vehicles identified and written to 4 responses

gallery 3 19 june

8 vehicles identified and written to 1 response

gallery 4 3 july

8 vehicles identified and written to 1 response

so in all 32 organisations contacted and 7 responses (21 percent)

now the responses seem to be 'standard replies' which i would doubt would ever be followed up within the organisation

So have you followed up on your initial letter and asked what action (if any) was taken against the offender or why they cant identify the offender?

Ultimately i cant see how you ever hope to achieve your objectives and your entire strategy seems ominously public sector (very theoretical with no clear idea of how/when objectives would be achieved)

Are you a retired ex senior civil servant/local goverment official? :D

'Infiltrate' tends to imply there was some sort of subterfuge. Everyone I know who registered over there, and was subsequently deleted, used the exact same usernames we do here. Furthermore we never attempted to engage in any sort of 'ruling'; I, for one, simply asked some questions, and made some reasonable, and largely supportive, points.

Still, if someone wants to hold delusions as king of their own tiny internet realm, let them, its not like its reaching more than a handful of people, and he's certainly not going to be getting any column inches.

Whys he crying?

The information we all posted was submitted to the www by himself!
Registrant info isnt a secret ( unless they make it so), his house location is on google maps -check it out micky.
His real problem stems from the fact that he's nuttier than a squirrels fart and he shows it; Talking to himself on his own little "virtual world".
Id like to ask if he gets much?

But we have given his site some publicity for those who support to go check it out.

I somehow think not as many as he like to think agree with him :hehe: SS registered list grow daily as do the other motoring fora listings which also seem to have on aggregate not liking nor support for automated speed enforcement as a "road safety policy". But only so many hours in day & some of us do like to go out und live life.

If there a problem on this road - then the people living there need to heckle the police to do their audit on this road. A police car make it plain they "on the case" here  Also as said earlier - a few "Slow/Kill Speed" signs along alternate lamp posts/VAS/Smiley SID will all do far more than posting up this.

I think I heard something about a web site showing gallery of bad drivers on radio. There were worries that chavvy yobs would see this as "badge of honour" It also depend on what the individual think to be "bad". You meet twazaks all the time. You deal und diffuse calmly to prevent incident involving you und yours. You continue on the COAST alert mode. You keep calm und just deal with each hazard without song und dance. It make for a calmer state of mind.

Who knows

Maybe Stanley Hill could become the next Youtube??

Its got an indie feel to it in a kind of postmodern ironic down with the kids style.

"Excellent idea. I've deleted your account. Please register again stating your location on Stanley Hill."

It appears that he only wants Stanley Hill residents to be a members of his gang.

Strange that out of potentially thousands of residents, there's 9 'members', one of which is the admin and that only two members have posted.

What's even more annoying, is that although it would appear that a majority of residents want nothing to do with this 'person', unfortunately the Council and the Police listen to people like this.

I only live 4 miles away from this hill, perphaps I should post a few SS flyers.

Come on Michael, even with your low member base we're all willing to debate your predicament, if it's a genuine concern for road safety as opposed to nimbyism then surely you would be more than willing to participate in discussion?

I think perhaps the organisation in question's user list (most don't seem to be members per se, but non-paid up forum users) is so long simply because it would appear a moderate degree of tolerance is given to very opposing opinions.

At least he didn't delete the post! Though he didn't address any of the other points.

But surely the take of folk across the country can help his plight?

No one really says "no problem" there - but this guy's site cannot be held to be improving matters on Stanley Hiill.

We have given some ideas - positive ones

I can only suggest the bloke posts up exactly what his gripe is. I think we will suggest useful and helpful advice to him. Other people across UK can identify and offer decent solution based on experience of similar

Just because a person holds a view as to efficiency of a speed cam does not mean they cannot offer something worthy of consideration to remedy this situation here

So I'd say to bloke in charge - chat on this forum about your concerns. We might even help you better than you think possible

All here want safety for all after all

The problem is, is there a problem in the first place? What's this bloke's true reasons for doing what he is doing. The evidence I have seen thus far, suggests that he is doing it more out of spite and hatred than for having a real concern for road safety, I would like him to prove me wrong.

I'm not sure why we are even giving it/him the airplay. He's at liberty to enter a debate with us but from what I have read he is biased towards a very simplistic, and wrong, solution towards road safety and tries to rubbish SS whilst obviously knowing nothing about it. We know there are many of his ilk out there, who will say black is white.

It seems he would rather take comfort in knowing safe drivers with an impeccable lifelong record are being done for a few mph over the limit under perfectly safe conditions while letting past the drunk, un-insured, wreckless etc.

I don't think he has the termerity or understanding to engage in an intelligent debate on road safety.

There are people out there who, to use your analogy Paul, will use a hammer to fix a clock and I personally would rather just not bother with them.

Have been away. I tried to register on the Stanley Hill site. I used the same details and name I use on all sites (including my occupation etc). I don't think anyone could ever accuse me of being someone who posts offensive things or tries to just stir things up. I didn't even get a mail saying my registration had been rejected just plain rude in my opinion - and rather sad.

I agree. I think it quite quaint that spinny (who else would register that name after all.) has not been banned there. Must sing from the right hymn sheet then

And to spinny as I know you lurk and love to quote us  - if I am assuming it's you and it's not - then sorry to "taint" you or "praise" you dependent on your odd take on life and your living out your life glued to these fora. I speak as a medic - I agree that it's fun to exchange ideas with folk we don't know personally but whose minds and intellect we know far better than their voices and faces in this virtual world of the internet  However, I would not defame or be delinerately insulting to someone to their face nor do I do so on an internet forum either. I speak for the entire family on this one by the way  I do tease and there's a difference in "tease/friendly leg pull" and I admit that I will post up objection to downright rudeness too. I try to keep it gentlemanly and am outrageously chivalrous to my wife at times :hehe:. Simple truth and I am not afraid of stating the rather "soppy" obvious: I just love her very much.

To Stanley Hill or whoever the web site owner is. I have not even bothered to register on that site. I have double checked with the Swiss mob who like to tease out COAST  They have no lurker or would be poster there.

However, I think most on this site would chat with you without any insult intended and would try to listen to the problems and discuss practical solutions with you. No one on here advocates any speed or road position unsafe for the prevailing conditions after all. I would not be speeding through an urban or residential area in any case. I admit I love driving in Germany. I admit that I might be a smidgeon above the lolly on an empty motorway on occasion. I admit that if any member of my family were taken ill - then I'd call police, advise them of intention and green light and just get them to the hospital  and travel at safest possible highest speed for the road in question. This may be at the lolly limit.. it may be above. It may even be below if injury to family dictated.

The last time? Wildy was in labour. She's high risk because of past. I take no chances with her life. It's precious to ME after all!

She has a feline habit of "short labours" but her past injury (well known on this site) does place her in some dangers. I know I drove above the 60 mph limit at times. I could not wait for an ambulance as we live off the beaten track. So .. called up and requested escort. I got one on last half mile to the hospital by the way. The police stopped traffic to allow me through a final red light setting. My wife gave birth five minutes after arrival at the hospital. Required a transfusion as she did lose blood owing to stresses placed on her even many years after the original trauma to her body.

Oh that's why I risked my clean driving licence. Fortunately she went into labour after the van timetable. I still have a "virginally issued" driving licence. I do intend to keep it so.

I accept that the JJs apologised for the chump's post at the time I
announced the safe arrival of my new daughter. I do have some regard for Kev and Jan. I cannot find the same respect for Steve though even though he did give me a useful contact over the suicidal "cycling lanes" here. I fight for the rights of my fellow cyclists as well as my fellow drivers

So to the Stanley Hill guy - post up your problem on this site. We will try to help you. Speed cams and letters to employers? I think you pee in the wind here to be honest.

Preach COAST values. Promote it as a positive. Most accept the common sense behind it and COMPLY to a SAFE speed which might even be below the lolly sign

I am trying to tell you that you have to be subtle and courteous to crack some of those nutters who push the envelope on your road.

As far as you can - keep their dignity intact. The hard core do and can be surprisingly appreciative of the gesture.

Contact "Council". Arrange for permission to place as "Thank you for driving carefully and courteously through our area" . This can also help matters for you.

I am trying to suggest stuff to help you as you obviously lurk here. Please believe that we want fair play and more policemen to hit the very dangerous. Automation is not working and I can produce peer reviewed stats from an Oxford Uni study. I can verify this to be the norm from the stats I see as senior medic on my patch. and I can also judge from the calls on the blood bank which my specialism has a link to

Dear Sir,

I note that youre running an anti speeding campaign on your site that uses two cameras a set distance apart supposedly synchronised "precisely".

My question isnt in regard to that aspect of your activities though, i would wish ask you how many excess of speed limit crashes have occurred on stanley hill in say the last 5 years?

I would be most appreciative of a response, as i attempted to register on your site but i was completely ignored.

Regards, DF.

Id just like to know how many crashes have happened there due to exceeding the speed limit for the period i mentioned.

If the answers *none* like i suspect it will be, then he's not doing it for the stated safety reasons and needs to be exposed for what he is; A crank and a control freak nimby.
If he's genuinely doing it because of crashes then ill retract the two names and issue an apology.
Otherwise i think someone needs to go visit him and park a large van obstructing his scamera view.
I hate nimbys and "concerned residents" and "tut tutters" with a passion.....theyre just so pious.
I wonder if he sits there all night "enforcing"? or is he a part time Judge Dredd? :D
Please Michael, if youre reading this, can you answer the questions or are you going to prove me right?....nimby... :D

Apparently, some SafeSpeed acolytes - whoever they are - are plotting to harass residents of said Stanley Hill.

http://www.bikeradar.com/forums/viewtop ... t=12536397

Hands up anyone who was plotting to harrass the residents

[still wonders how rothbook was accepted into the SH forum]

(C+ has been moved to www.bikeradar.com - as have the trolls)
