is SafeSpeed a registered charity so that you can claim back gift aid?

This is still a question I'm interested to know the answer to. If I make a donation, I want to make sure that Gordon Brown pays his fair share too. :)

No it's not. Charity status is not easy.

Why should that stop you donating though?

I didn't say that it would do.

What did stop me donating was that last time I looked into it, it seemed that you had to e-mail your credit card number in plain text across the internet. However, it looks like now you can do it by paypal so I will certainly be considering it.

Simple way - go to internet banking - set up a standing order in your own bank site - on your bank account - no bank details pass across the net - or pay the ful whack to SS account in a oner .

Graeme - (sorry mate wrong spelling for me -can't get used to it, my family version has a h in the middle)--charity status - can't we attract some disabled drivers ---would that do the trick ??

It's not only the qualitying criteria, it's all the applications & regulation involved that stops us doing it.

Know the problem - our local RA had that sort of problem - was thinking out loud - thought that disabled etc might swing it .

And on names - my ancestors were known for liking , to see ,well, blood on more than one occasion- so my father's research found out, round a few hundred years ago .

Hello. I was convinced I was a member here but when I looked into it I found that I wasn't. Anyway I set up my monthly donation a while back via Paypal. I get a confirmation from them every time a payment goes out. Couldn't be simpler.

I finally decided to click the link to make a donation, but it takes me to a standard paypal "fill in your details and credit card" screen. It all looked a bit vague; if I make a donation how will I know if the payment is received successfully and how will you link it with my forum account to change the avatar?

I'll keep an eye out and process anything required. If that didn't work you could simply post back in here and ask for help. But of course it will work.

Thanks for the planned support.

Well done, Sir - especially as I know we have been collaborators elsewhere

How about a button with the others top left ?

You could set up a Paypal donate button so people could just donate as and when they can.

All manner of donate options can be found here, including a 'one-off, any amount' option:

It seems that the question about, "why is Safe Speed not a charity ?"

Well this is very simple, you cannot be a charity and lobby government, or fight on any political level.

We will look into better 'member join buttons too and make sure that everyone is paid up to date'! thank you all for your on-going support.
Please don't forget that we now have NEW paypal accounts.... since Jan 2008.
Do update your contributions to this new account.
Thank you. :-)

The thing is Clare, I don't see that what you're doing is any different to what Brake are doing, and a recent complaint to the charities commission came back saying that Brake haven't done anything which breaches the code of conduct...

If you set youtself up as a support charity for people who risk losing their livelyhoods through false speeding convictions...

Well I would LOVE to see that report because it was VERY very clear when we looked into it. Perhaps they have found a way around it ....

BTW the charity / lobby question is now defunct as you can 'now' be a charity and lobby government.
However there are several other organisation types and I am trying to establish what is exactly 'right' given the time and money constraints. Many types of organisation seem to have pluses and minuses that end up making them unsuitable.
I have to wear many hats, and anything that takes extra time (or money) can make a possible type no good.
edited ...
