Old topic, new idea.
May 5 = proposed election date.
Can anyone ( e.g. safespeed) come up with a proforma letter/specimum letter to send to candidates to show strength of anti scamera pratnership propaganda and actions, asking for their stance and stating facts to shoot down the anti speed lobby.
The Tories seem keen, but do they care ?

I have a plan rolling. I hope the plan will turn into a news story this week and provide ample opportunity for follow ups. If I talk about it too soon, then some of the impact and the ability to make news will be lost.

It's an fine idea to write to parlimentary candidates, and I'll certainly be offering powerful and well-targeted ammunition.

Watch this space.

Our plan goes public at noon Tuesday. A new web page will be available and a press release will go out.

Watch this space. (Sorry to have to play cloak and dagger games)

The following new Safe Speed web page will be available soon:

(I'm working on that and a PR due to go at noon now.)

SS:
on the graphs.... what are the estimates based on?

you/they/we 're always pointing out statistics being manipulated to support an argument and the exponential extrapolation (nice) looks just like this (even if it does follow the trend).

surely the graphs would look just as good (bad?) with 2003 & 2004 missed off and not leave yourself open to accusations of statistical fudging & sensationalism...?

The graphs simply extropolate the latest rate of change - but the estimate is 13.5 million. The 'over 12 million' headline claim is conservative and allows for any overestimate in the extrapolation.

There's a spreadsheet posted for download on the page if you want to see the calculations.

It's unfortunate that I've been so rushed that I've not yet been able to get all this written up and published to the page.

ah yes so there is....

the 'estimated' 2003 figures appear to have been entered by hand not calculated in the spreadsheet in the same way as the 2004 figures. whats going on there?

i agree that the trend is upward..... and the year on year increase extrapolation fits well, but still an assumption (and a convenient one for the case being demonstrated).

that said extrapolating an average year on year value rather than the most recent gives 11.5m total & just over 6m since 2002 which is still >half.

The 1.89 million figure is from camera partnership accounts - paid FPNs during financial year 2003 to 4. In addition there are an unknown number of court hearings. The three month time-slip caused by the financial year is partly compensated for by payment delays and by non-partnership camera fines.

I'm organising more figures now and will update the page when the phone stops ringing!

I have been a lifelong Labour voter, but i will never vote Labour again since i became a criminal (or feel like one). I now have 9 points an over 30 on a dual carraigeway (no paths), an over 50 on a motorway finished roadworks, and an over 60 on a country road 5 miles from the nearest town (2 mile straight).

There's no point going to court to protest as they will not listen and haven't got time for law abiders, we're not worthy of an opinion.

I now detest the police and would never go out of my way to help them, i now detest Labour for targetting a way to make money from honest people and ignoring real crime!

If everyone in this country used their vote to vote Conservative if they have received a speeding fine they felt was unjust, it would be the biggest landslide ever.

Every day i set out on any kind of journey, i feel like someone is going to pounce if i haven't studied evry road sign, because the placement of cameras is againt natural driving condition and logic.

My blood boils at every camera, policeman on a fly over (actually any vechile on a flyover causes hysterical braking nowadays), Britain is leading the way in this madness, no other countries people would accept it the way we do.

My vote is the only protest i can use and i hope others use theirs.
