I just saw an idea floated by some Councils about parking enforcement.

They want to be able to ticket people for "inconsiderate" parking (irrespective of lines, signs etc.) on the opinion of a enforcement officer. Their argument is that people should "know" that parking on, for example, a drop kerb, is wrong.

A great scheme as:

- they won't have to get the legals correct to make a no parking order as these will not be needed
- they won't have the expense of putting up signs or painting lines
- you won't know if you have parked considerately or not
- you will have no chance of appeal thus saving them a fortune in admin.

Amazingly, the AA are actually against it.

I am against any parking control other than that which is absolutely necessary, such as parking that causes serious traffic flow probs/hazard or danger ( all of which should be dealt with by police or dare I say Traffic Wardens, so giving someone who may have no idea what inconsiderate parking is the power to punish is typically big brother and a pathetic excuse for more revenue raising. Most parking probs are nothing more than an irritation I have seen little evidence that all these parking restrictions and controls up and down the country have improved anything much, maybe Im wrong but in the last 30yrs has anyones journeys around Britain been dramatically changed by the overwhealming parking laws/controls/restrictions? I dont think so somehow other than reducing drivers cash levels.Drivers bring huge revenue to evereywhere yet in some places they are charged more to park than they spend in a day there. There thats my rant, I just hate this grabbing country sometimes.

Am I wrong, or can the police already do this?

I suppose this "solves" the problem of parking tax vendors acting illegally & against the rules, just "officially" give them carte blanche to do what they like.

I often wonder why they don't get more "grief", but I guess all the violent, dangerous people drive cloned cars anyway.
