not sure how good/bad this statistic is or what it shows:

Just spotted this one ,but isn't Coventry uni close to that  And I'd suspect the student union is also close by .

Quote:
Speaking after the case, Graham Hubbard, Sector Crown Prosecutor for the West Midlands Crown Prosecution Service, said: “On the first day of the trial, a key witness provided evidence to the court which was not contained in their original statement.

Quote:
Police said that the decision not to carry on with the trial came after a witness said the “shared space” was so confusing it was inevitable there would be an accident.

One passenger on the bus, which had travelled down Bishop Street before reaching Hales Street, had earlier told the trial people had been confused at the new junction.

She said: “People don’t know where to cross or which direction traffic is coming in.”

Was the trial really dropped because a bus passenger (key witness?) said the junction was confusing ?
I struggle to imagine what other defense the prosecution was expecting :loco: if they didn't come prepared to defend the junction layout.

On these "no priority" junctions, if there is a collision, then there is no obvious miscreant to blame (as nobody has crossed a red light etc). Assuming no liability is accepted, most cases will have to go to court to prove liability. Is this a useful use of time and resources?

IMO it will lead to more cases like the one in the paper where an elderly man was knocked down, everyone blamed the bus driver but it was actually found that he was not at fault. With this system you might think that, at last, everyone will have to take responsibility for their own safety. However, children and the elderly simply won't and would benefit from clear signage and traffic controls.

These junctions are an invitation to blame someone else for your own lack of care.

In general, a principle of safety is that you should know what is safe behaviour and you should obey reasonable instructions to that end. At least with the conventional system it is pretty easy to understand how to be safe.
