Police anger on speed cameras
By David Williams, Evening Standard Motoring Editor
18 March 2004

Rank-and-file police officers have launched an attack on chief constables for encouraging the proliferation of speed cameras.

Police magazine, the voice for 132,000 officers, says the introduction of cameras has let chiefs reduce the proportion of resources given over to road patrols from 15 per cent in the Eighties to five per cent today.

It says officers have become demoralised and demotivated as more bad drivers escape detection.

the trouble is carl, they simply wont give a straight set of numbers, or in this case reasons to go with the numbers.

The fact is the chief constables (generally) under tight budget control decided to reduce the amount of police effort they gave to the traffic police. They decided there were no serious problems they had to deal with on the roads. They spent their money on serious or what we would call real crime. The along came the speed cam, they got something for nothing and they all but one, jumped on board.

so before they self financing scam cam, they were quite happy to see people hurtle along at 100 mph.. it didnt bother then one jot.. Traffic is the poor relation of the police force. If it was a serious issue they would of got the money.

Traffic wasnt worth policing !

happy days
