It's a set of principles that I've learned to drive by. I was taught it unknowingly by my dad's oldest brother, regarded as the family driving trainer. he possibly didn't know it by that name, but when I first saw someone post it on here ,I recognised the principles as what Uncle Jack had taught me. Strange that a bloke who's job was to make memorials for the deceased could be so concerned with teaching road safety .Of course he had been a TA member in the Tank corps(pre WW2) being trained to drive what today would be classed as heavy /long/wide loads , so perhaps he was well qualified to pass on his knowledge.
But back on topic. Some time ago IG posted a compleate guide to COAST. Search as I can, I can't find the post. My son has decided that he wants to learn to drive. I don't intend to get involved in the practical side, but any advice or tips I can pass on ,I will. I'm pleased to find that his instructor on lesson one has told him about mirror positioning to mean that he moves his head (making the tester aware of looking in mirror).
But I feel that at an early stage exposure to COAST principles ( even in this town where receiving courtesy is more of the exception than the norm),might give him an advantage. I might be considered as an awkward OLD SOD, but if I see a learner doing a multi point turn/ reverse round a corner or anything for which a bit more than a modicum of courtesy is needed, then I'll block the passage of the idiots to threaten the learner and let them do their manoeuvre in safety. I call it my campaign to resurrect road courtesy .
So ,if anyone can direct me to the post, I'd be grateful .

Was talking about these on LBC this morning. COAST is a great way to drive by :) but how many are encouraged to recall them or even educated to remember them ?
Much more Government Education Info media promotion is required.

The attitude of reliance on Scam Courses is appalling. Driver education needs to be down prior to offences with special cases going through to Standardised Specialist Government run courses, not those for pure profit.

BUT - where has the INFORMATION ON THIS SITE GONE TO ? I can remember the basics of C.O.A.S.T. , but not the basics ,as defied on this site, something I believe EVERY driver should strive to achieve.
