Sorry to post this under Paul's title, but I here at his computer, I need to go up on the roof and make a structure around the header tank for the only log stove that works in my office, but the other day at -11 all the water froze - even the pipes that are on the basement floor and lead back to the...

How much support do people think the under equipped & underpaid soldiers who were sent to a streetwar we had no business being in will give to our government ? To the Squaddies reading this... I support you 100% Not the reasons you were sent there though. This is a difficult area for me persona...

I always quite liked the old monochromatic orange sodium street lamps. Theye were certainly better than the mercury and fluorescent designs that were also common years ago. Sometime the more modern pinkish high pressure sodium lights are significantly brighter, which I think is helpful. But if I was...

Not trying to labour a point, but why is a resemblance to Police vehicles a problem? [...] Balance that against the safety of Traffic Officers working on the motorway (and the people they may be protecting) and in my (admittedly biased) view it is a 'price' worth paying. There was a lot of consulta...

This is a LTI20.20 laser speed meter in a camera van connected to video. The laser speed meter is dodgy at best, especially with vans. It should have been withdrawn years ago. Nevetheless it remains hard to fight. In the circumstances you describe it's possible - or even likely - that alternative ev...

Unless you know of any state-owned pubs and restaurants, of course it is.

I see your point, the public access is probably what threw me.

Nothing to do with it being called a public house, obviously... :hehe:

Between July 15 and September 15 this year there were eight collisions on that stretch of the A14, compared to 21 for the same period in 2006. [...] During the first four months since the cameras went live on July 9 there have been 258 speeding offences identified. There's some MAJOR cherry picking...

Where do the government get the statistic of safety cameras saving 100 lives per year in the uk? The claim is usually ~50% decrease in KSI at camera sites. There are about 6000 cameras. Assuming 4 KSI in 3 years at each site- call it 1 KSI a year before camera installation. That is about 6000 Ksi. ...

But it's worse than even that, really. You just can't get the throttle control balance stuff with the cradle cars, nor can you learn to feel the early warning signs of loss of grip in the steering. i've been lucky enough to have the chance to drive a high performance 2 seater recently, wide wide lo...

I'm on by telephone at about 5:10pm talking about 'early results' from the A14 specs cameras. What results would that be? :) http://www.cambridge-news.co.uk/cn_news_home/DisplayArticle.asp?ID=241031 (all I have so far). Perhaps someone would like to paste it as a news story and discuss it there? Ke...

I rate ordinary cars on real slippery skid pans as far far ahead of funny cradles and funny rear wheel steer cars. absolutely. I took a course in a cradle car about 10 years ago. The instructor pressing the buttons said 'now this is what happens in a real wheel drive car', pressing the button to re...

Eh? Are you saying that the insurance company had access to your confidential medical history? Really? How? And How dare they? As cabbie mentioned, the insurance company already knew, they probably checked with the DVLA. I wouldn't be surprised if the DVLA/Insurance/MOT database shows this informat...
