I have people commuting through village, many APPEAR to drive within the limit, some APPEAR to drive at above, for the most part I suspect it is well below albeit a continuous stream. Many of these people who drive through the village do so because the towns have conducted their own policy of hate towards the motorist and have restricted by way of congestion; free flowng access into many parts of town. I find myself doing this when visiting a friend of mine; the junction is 2.5 miles from his house, I end up driving 4 miles to his house via a couple of villages not because it always takes me less time to do so, but because i'm not continually stuck in traffic lights that never used to be there, or pinch points that again never used to be there.

Yes, the volume of traffic has increased considerably in our village; having lived there pretty much all my life, I have no doubt that this is a symptom of barmy planning/engineering within and around the town, nor do I have any doubt, that those calling for a speed camera in our village, are doing so in an attempt at punishing those drivers who dare use "our" village as a means of thoroughfare.

Trying to eak out a living in the countyside has shown me that a lot of the people that move in to it are idiots. They see a idillic picture and think "I'll have some of that" then complain because some one drove past there house or a farmer sprayed his crops/ made a mess/ stirred up some dust/ made some noise/ spread muck/ had a noisy cow, or a neighbour built an extension, blarr blarr.

Had this only yesterday. Some old twit who has been in the village for about a year, moved next to my local pub that has been a pub for 300 years. He complained about the noise. It wasn't that loud and even though hot, all the windows were closed as a result. He was ranting and raving that he would see to it that the pub was closed down etc.

It is unlikely that he will live in the village for long, one thing you do not screw with, is a local and their pint.

The opposite happened to my local in the village I grew up in, but the moral's the same:

For many years, and old guy had come in and played the old favourites on a concertina in front of the fire, once a month. The old dear from next door came in and sang.

They were dreadful (and played pretty loudly), but they were pretty much a fixture and fitting.

The pub was sold to a couple from the north, who started throwing money at the place, taking it 'upmarket'; part of their plan was to put a permanent awning over part of the beer garden and turn it into a wedding venue; in fact their costings relied on it. They also swiftly stopped hosting the old musical couple.

Shortly afterwards, the old dear began complaining to the council about the noise from the beer gardens (for the first time ever), and the pub were made to take the awning down. They went out of business and a 500 year old pub closed.

I guess again; another opposite to that portrayed, is that the Police don't bother with many villages as many of the culprits are those calling for the bleeding cameras in the first place.

Commiserations on you losing your local

I should have guessed that, looks like they’re using flash lights as speed cameras.
