Hi,

I was wondering if someone (perhaps a Police Officer here) could clarify something for me.

Yesterday i was driving down a main road between two towns. In the distance i could hear a siren. Checking my mirrors i could see a Police Astra coming down the centre of the road with lights and sirens going. Everyone pulled over for it and it speed past. However a few seconds later a blue / grey Focus (?) with a xx55 xxx plate came charging through with full beam headlights on honking it's horn. I'm sure i also spotted the little green stickers you get on Eurocar Hire cars! It nearly hit three cars because it was all over the road and the horn is nowhere near as effective as the sirens (i.e. you can't hear the car honking its horn until it's right behind you) compared to the siren where you can hear it a long way off). It followed the Police car through the traffic and off into the distance.

Now we live near Surrey Police HQ in Sutton and so see a few ARV and Astra / Vectras charging about. We also see a lot of "Undercover" (?) cars with the distinct blue headlights in the grill, alternating flashing headlights and sirens but never a car just with full beams and it horn!!

Legit Police car or someone taking advantage of a free Police escort?

Maybe it was a medical emergency or some thing like that and it was having an escort.

Doesn't seem very Safe! Surely whatever or who ever was in the car would be better off in the Police Astra?

The place where i pulled over is a short distance away from a big junction and i can't see that this would be an effective way of doing it. A Police car in front of the Focus and one behind would also be better as you'd still have the second car coming but to have a single Police car whizz through and then an unmarked car following does not seem very safe at all. As i checked my mirrors at least 3 cars nearly pulled out in front of the unmarked car because they assumed it wasn't an emergency vehicle. The Police car made its way through almost unimpeded but the Focus was all over the place because cars started to pull out back into traffic before he got to them.
