In contrast to the normal tardy delay, this months figures for July are already available!!

http://www.cumbriasafetycameras.org/facts.php?link=2006&display=block#monthly

A further 5 deaths after the awful June figures! I cannot but wonder how much money has been raised while these unfortunate road users died, and the causes of their plight go unaddressed.

Looks like last years total may be passed :(

But I suppose this will be tackled by more cameras that do not solve the problem

Yes, in the best traditions of CSCP logic -

1) Deaths go down - the cameras MUST be working, we MUST have more of them

2) Deaths go up - we MUST have more cameras to do the job....

Just watch EFC, if 2006's deaths are up on 2005's (low) figure, they'll go back to talking about KSI's not deaths.

Parasites the lot of 'em...

A 14 year old boy from Essex died yesterday, crossing the A6 at Sizergh Barn Shop - an NSL dual carriageway.
I wonder how a boy of such an age came to be crossing such a busy road at that point, and how the car driver did not see him in time to avoid the collision.
Just at that point, the central median has trees and shrubs growing in it, which restrict the view.
However that would affect both parties.

NOT a good start to August.
Of course, it could be classed as a rural road - in which case a speed restriction to 40 MPH should soon sort that out! :x

Two more fatalities overnight - two teenagers in two vehicles, on a minor road near Penrith.

What an appalling waste of life.

To which the attitude of the Speedfinder-General and his discredited CSCP will probably be: "The medicine isn't working - increase the dosage".

Something else isn't working either.

Today the owner of Appleby Castle escaped punishment for speeding, after satisfying a judge that he could not say who was driving two of his vehicles pictured speeding on the A66 and the M6 - 74 mph and 85 mph respectively in NSL and 70 limits.

It seems that despite the assertions of Mr Callaghan that he will always get his man, it was obviously impossible to see just who was behind the wheel. :P
At least neither vehicle had a cloned plate, so that should be some comfort! 8-)

The Judge said Mr Nightingale had clearly cooperated fully once he became aware, but was clearly unable to say which of his staff had been behind the wheel. :speakno:
Maybe it just needed the spittle wiping from the lens to get a better picture.

An interesting tack regarding these two latest casualties....
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/england/cumbria/5244640.stm
Quote:
Two motorists killed in accident
Two drivers have been killed in a road crash in Cumbria.

Will Renwick, 18, from Penrith and Graeme Dixon, 28, from Ousby, both died in the crash.

Cumbria Police said the men were declared dead at the scene of the incident, at Ousby, just outside Penrith, early on Friday.

A spokesman said everything possible was being done to reduce the number of fatal road accidents in the county, which last year claimed 45 lives.

Supt Jon Rush, chair of the Casualty Reduction and Safer Highways partnership (Crash), said: "During the last month there have been three collisions in North Cumbria in which people have died.

Further education

"We are determined to do all in our power to reduce the number of casualties on North Cumbrian roads.

"There are already two media campaigns running at the moment, one on young drivers and one aimed at reminding people that a knowledge of a particular road will not compensate for poor driving.

"After all, of the 45 people who died last year in Cumbria, 37 lived in the county.

"I would like to extend my sympathies to the families of the victims of the latest fatal collision at Ousby.

"We will be examining these three collisions at our next meeting and planning further education for the area.

"But in the end it is driver behaviour which will have the most significant impact on the number of casualties."

Vehicles were a Black Vauxhall Corsa and a Green VW Golf.

No mention of the passenger from one of the vehicles who was in hospital according to radio reports.

As there’s no mention of speed in the article it looks to me the CSCP are realising that speed cameras are not working and climbing down, and echoing that it’s education that’s needed.

Yes, that quote is from a police member of CRASH, not CSCP - no doubt he will be getting poison pen letters from Callaghan because he did not mention reducing speed!!

Suppose I was being a bit optimistic, but they can’t keep lying forever.

I take it that the 74mph in a NSL was a 60mph limit ??
