The penalty for 'Having a number plate that does not comply with the law' is, up to a thousand pounds !

That's true - but mostly it's a £30 fixed penalty ticket.

The maximum penalty for driving at 71mph on a motorway is 2,500 pounds and 6 points, but mostly it isn't even prosecuted.

The typical penalty is clearly the important one in many cases - we shouldn't be brow beaten by threats of a maximum penalty that has probably never been applied.

Extremely ignorant piece of journalism, so I doubt any of it is accurate. Correct me if I am wrong, but itsn't a minicomputer about the size of a small fridge-freezer?

Did he mean microcomputer?

Well bogger me !
Even though I have never been caught exceeding the limit, yet, but it's only a matter of time before I inadvertently creep over the posted for a few seconds, so I've just decided that my front number plate is coming off !
Just in case.
At least this way I won't get any points ?
8-)

Thanks for that.

But then again, you did say 'Mostly' !!
And, is the £30 fixed penalty ticket just a first offence one off ?

Hanbo.

You give me an example of the £1000 hit for an unreadable number plate. :?

I have known several riders that have been busted and £50 was the maximum. Same as riding without a helmet or driving with a broken tail light.

These crazy "maximum" fines are used to intimidate the public by the police....you can fool all the people some of the time, etc..

check out:-http://www.police-law.co.uk/rainertech/policelaw.nsf/1649e8496940e5e380256ba8006061d3/1c71ee4b210f053d80256baa004fce1d!OpenDocument
for a full list of non-endorsable violations..

Most Scamera partnerships are now aware that the death toll for bikers this year is well down on last year. Desperate to claim success they are rushing anti-biker initiatives out before the end of the season so they can claim success next year.

The reality is that a lot of seasonal riders wont venture out when it's raining. Which is pretty much what it did all summer.

Ask your local bike school if takings are down on last year
look at you local bike meet is it as busy as last year.
Check the forecast for every weekend where the KSIs are low.

It stands to reason that if motorclists are 10-15 times more likely to be KSId than car drivers, then an increas or decrease in traffic numbers will affect the stats. Cars are not largely leasure items, so we need a different way of reviewing motorcycle KSI figures.

After all un balanced govt. figures show that January is the safest time of year to ride!
