My sister reckons that there cannot be a drop of 30m.p.h. between consecutive speed limits on any stretch of road.
As I am already well ahead in my fight for justice under another sub-heading I wondered if anyone could confirm this as it would make my case even more absolute.
Situation was NSL(single carriageway) 60m.p.h. Approached roundabout speed limit sign (30m.p.h.) appears 50 yds from roundabout. Where would you start braking?
For me it was 200yds before sign as I stared to brake when I realised the road I was on should not be 60 m.p.h. and the whole scenario is a money making scam.
Unfortunately I got caught driving off the roundabout as by then I was completely confused by the whole situation.
I would love tsm to do this stretch without prior knowledge. Perhaps then his preconceptions of the universe could be dented if not reversed.
Please Mr. Policeman put up adequate signs. If you help us we will most certainly help you. Unless, of course, that is not your aim.

If your sister is correct, there are a lot of unlawful speed limit changes near me - where the limit often changes from NSL to 30 mph at the outskirts of villages.

Shouldn't you have been braking for the roundabout regardless of the speed limit?

In fact I can think of a fair number of 40 mph drops between dual-carriageway NSL and 30.

And here's a drop between 60 and 20 :o

Peter,

What's the signage like further back in the NSL section as you approach the corner? Do you get any warning of the give way?

There is a "chicane ahead" sign IIRC - you can just see the back of it on the second picture.

Also there's a right-angled bend about 200 yards from the chicane, so you're unlikely to be doing anywhere near 60.

Still utter crap, though :x

Is'nt the first warning hidden in the bushes when viewed from the other side?
While I would not advocate traveling the bend downhill at 60, that first warning sign seems totally inadequate, and could leave careless motorists at risk of a head on in the chicane!

Is that speed limit sign there "erected on a trunk or principal road within 50 metres of a street lamp lit by electricity"?

There's a lamp next to the chicane.

....as are so many of these 'safety' measures.

We have two of these chicanes at our village, and one of them is right on a bend that looks about the same radius as the one you show. The only saving grace is that ours does not include speed humps.

Best wishes all,
Dave.

There's a NSL to 30 drop near me... It must be something like 50 yards from a bend in the road... No advance warning of '30 mph in xx yards' or anything, doubt that's even a legal sign... Where do the police like to sit... Just after this sign... It's a fair enough speed limit though, there's a school and a few blind junctions, but still, surely they should move it to the other side of the bend, or give it a bit further along before dropping it...

Thanks for your input.
I think you missed the point though.
Of course I should have been braking for the roundabout anyway (as I was).
The point I am trying to make is that there is no need for the sign BEFORE the roundabout (as anyone with an IQ above that of tsm knows to slow down for a junction).
As a stranger in the area I was looking for signs to my destination, whilst watching for traffic coming from my right.
The sign was easily missable under such circumstances, so coming off the roundabout I was unaware of the limit and (looked pretty uninhabited) thought it was the same 60 as the road before the roundabout.
When I saw the van (and TOPS of houses behind it) I realised it was a trap.
P.S. I knew my sister was talking b......s!

There is a 70 to 30 drop at the top of the M606, about 3 feet before a set of traffic lights.

All sounds too similar to Telford & Wrecking council's persistent dribblings when attempting to defend their cretinous alterations to our local roundabouts.

"The measures have been introduced to slow down drivers at the island"........

This, of course, assumes that prior to the adaptations every driver was careering headlong through the roundabout, over the grass bank in the middle, and thereby unlawfully overtaking a bus.

And we can't have that?

Can we?
