I was reading an article in the Telegraph and part of the article was the quote below. I was surprised to notice that all but one (because it doesn’t say how old the driver was) of the accidents involved young people.

Quote:
The weekend was marred by a series of road accidents which left at least four teenagers and one pensioner dead.

A 16-year-old boy died on Sunday night after being struck by a car as he walked near his home in Andover, Hants.

In an unrelated incident, a 62-year-old pedestrian was killed in Overton, Hants. An 18-year-old man was later detained by police.

In Kingham, Oxon, a 19-year-old man died and a teenager, aged 16, was seriously injured after two cars collided on Sunday night.

In Hertfordshire a 17-year-old boy died and another was left in a critical condition after a car packed with five youths somersaulted at Hemel Hempstead.

A 17-year-old boy died after losing control of the Jaguar he was driving at Paignton, Devon.

I doesn't say how old the drivers were in some of those, just the age of the person who died.

But yes, there are always more accidents on a bank holiday weekend. Personally I dread a long commute home (eg. if I'm doing a job in the North West and will have to use the M6 to get home) if it's a Friday before a bank holiday.

What happens, IMO, is all the people whos driving experience takes them no further than Tesco and/or their workplace suddenly crawl out of the woodwork and onto the motorways, often with caravans attached that haven't moved since last year and have just sat rotting on a driveway. They have little long distance experience and go out and cause chaos.

It's almost a certanity that there will be an accident on the M6 within the vicinity of Stafford on these days. They usually don't make it as far as the heavily congested bits around Birmingham (or at least they can't flip their caravan over after towing it at silly speeds in the heavily congested bits around Birmingham)

Solutions to the problem? No idea. A few plod around to pull people over when their caravan is bouncing around all over the place might be a good start.

Pretty much every insurance company out there will take you on if you can afford the premium.
Back in 96, my brother (then 18) had no problem in getting insured in a brand new (P reg) Nissan 200SX Turbo (the 200BHP model).

Could well also be part of a trade policy. I was in my mates Ferrari at 18, and various others such as Bentleys thanks to a fleet insurance.

Thankfully for some bank holidays in the year I get to work the whole day. I get two and a half times the hourly rate, but to be honest I'd do it for normal pay, just don't tell my boss that..... I hate the traffic jams, the queues and the weather!

About ten years ago, my brother was quoted £25,000 for insurance on an Escort Cosworth :o
