Looks like Gordon had had a brain fart when he chose to introduce a VED of Zero for Band A cars (less then 100 g/km)

I had a look on the VCA database which lists cars by band. I went through every fuel option, Petrol Diesel and "Alternate"

http://www.vcacarfueldata.org.uk/search/vedSearch.asp

The answer came up "Sorry, no manufacturers were found in the selected VED Band"

Priceless!

What a knob. And yet the majority of the population will fail to realise this little anomoly and feel that the extra tax they're paying is their own fault for driving too big a car.

What a surprise. I knew this would be the case. Usual con merchant that is Brown. Although vague bells tell me that dreadful contraption like the smart car is just under as is some other asthmatic tin can.

:furious: I hate being taxed because I have an efficent enigine :furious:

Word equation for combustion.

Hydrocarbons (petrol)+Oxygen = Carbon dioxide + water

If you don't burn all your hydrocabons you get Carbon monoxide (can kill), and unburt hydrocarbon (can cause CANCER!)

Tress need CO2 and H2O to grow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

BA$%&!£D

Rant over

I've heard that the Smart diesel is Band A. But you can't get that one here either

Have heard that VAT has been scrapped and is now replaced by TBE (Tax on Bloody Everything) can anyone confirm ???

Seems that he's nudged up the threshold on inheritance tax, why didn't he scrap it ?? Nope too much money lost that way. but nudging the threshold makes him look (in his eyes) that he is listening to the populace.

Well someone did say that when a politician is silent he's telling the whole truth , at other times - take his words at face value.

We knew he would not dare raise fuel tax -so he hinted that "gas guzzlers" are bad for the planet --and the idiots rushed out of the asylum to back him. Like the last time he brought in a lower VED for "smaller engined cars ", how many qualified.

The only Labour chancellor that gives the motorist something for nothing is looking for votes / knows that he and his party are heading for defeat

The BBC managed to find two.

Smart diesel (90 g/km) - mentioned above, you can't get here.

Honda Insight petrol electric hybrid (80 g/km) - doesn't appear on Honda UK's website so I guess you can't get that either.

Interesting points on the DVLA site --

Only new high rate cars will get hit worst.

The rules allow those who would pay a lower rate to surrender their VED and re apply at the new rate --might be a good way to hit back if advertised.(Q & A 3)

http://www.dvla.gov.uk/vehicles/Changes ... le_tax.htm

Mr Brown has forgotten a well known political phrase about fooling people ( think it was one of Churchills)

From the DVLA site...
Quote:
7) What is flex-fuel and can I convert my car to this?

E85 (sometimes known as Flex-fuel) is a mixture of bioethanol and unleaded petrol where the proportion of bioethanol by volume is at least 85%. There are currently only two models of vehicle on sale in this country that run on this type of fuel. Flex-fuel only applies to vehicle constructed to run on this fuel.

More cobblers I think!

In the US there are currently 2 million cars on the roads that are designed to run on E85, so we are a bit behind on this one :x

8) Why are you increasing motorcycle tax, when a motorcycle is more environmentally friendly than a car?

Decisions on VED are a matter for the Chancellor who weighs up many factors when deciding on rates of VED and he has decided to increase the rates for motorcycles in line with inflation.

BASTARDS

As the saying goes "if something sounds too good to be true...."

The lowest CO2 score I could find (for a car available in the UK) was the Honda Civic Hybrid with 109.

So the new Band G (CO2 225 upwards) is just for big 4x4s & executive saloons is it?

VW Beetle 2.0i = 228
Vauxhall Astra 2.0T = 226
Peugeot 407 2.2i Extate = 228
Audi TT 190BHP = 228
LTI TXi 2.4D Taxicab = 243 (Gonna be a major moneyspinner, that one)

Once again, we've all been shafted.

And thus "classic" cars become an ever more attractive prospect every day

What started as a joke for me some time ago (build a new frame using the headstock from an old 1972 Honda 750/4) is slowly becoming a realistic prospect if those twats carry on trying to screw me.

Piece in a local freebie tied to evening gazette chain - Morrissons will soon stock E85 (sometimes known as Flex-fuel).

Quote from Anterra"Once again, we've all been shafted."---what do you expect , its a Budget ,he's a politician , do you honestly expect him to tell the whole truth .
Only time they do that is when they're snoring , (and even then it's dubious)

The farm I worked on in ohio grew corn (maize) for ethanol all the petrol vehicles on the farm ran on it without alteration, so whats the problem? The firm/coop thingy they grew for sponsored a top fuel dragster. Good fun watching him race from the VIP studio type place. Pass the prawn sandwiches please...

Just checked and my road tax is still the same. nice

Don'y expect a que at the pump. Only two cars can use it and they have only just come out.

Another look at the piece - someone mentioned the new Saab range .

On the point of mixing ethanol with petrol - some african countries did it years ago - Zimbabwe, just out of it's Rhodesia days did, and i believe it was started in Smiths time. They used conventional engines .Only problem in that climate the engines ran "dryier" than normal - those with a mechanical fuel pump tended to vapour lock when left standing after use in the heat ( not going to be a uk problem i suspect)--could be cured with a little diesel/oil in the fuel.
The main point being that they ran ok.
