Leicester City Council has commissioned a study into the effects of speed cameras on traffic speeds, flows and accidents in the city. Planning consultant White Young Green will carry out the assessment. Safety cameras are currently used at seven fixed sites and 20 mobile sites in the city.

(From LTT 26/8/04)

That's a bargain. The safety camera partnership are required to report this to DfT every year. Don't the Council trust their own partnership? Sounds like a waste of money unless they are claiming it back of course.

I don't think anyone should trust the partnerships. Just look at all the questions they won't answer.

I would agree that the Camera Partnerships have far too many vested interests to be trusted to produce any reliable data. In particular, their interest in traffic flow might be entirely counter-productive, in that decreased flow meets their requirement for reduced speed, whilst (hopefully) the council wants to see traffic flow improve.

I have to say that from all the contradictory evidence I've seen presented, if I were in the position of needing to know the truth I'd be looking to get someone truly independent to find it out.
