This has not happened to me, but in case it does...

What happens if my car get cloned and I get speeding fines, parking tickets and congestion charge fines?

It appears that when you get a camera fine you have to admit to it or you get to pay a bigger fine. I would be some what upset to get a fine when I know my car was sat on the drive.

Obviously if the roads were policed by real live policemen, the cloned vehicle would be removed from the roads. But that is not an option any more.

Well, since a NIP is pretty much "guilty until proven innocent" :x I'd guess it's up to the driver to prove it wasn't their car. Could be tricky.

It is not the car that breaks the law, but the driver. If you are not the driver, you have not broken the law.

The trick is convincing the powers that be. If the offences are happening hundreds of miles away, and you are at work/in church getting married/at a darts match with dozens of witnesses etc. etc. the case will be easy to dismiss.

Please explain more about how a copper can know that. I should have thought that pucker record keeping systems were good for this sort of thing.

a friend of mine had a problem with cloning years ago

he ran a ford orion as a taxi in liverpool.

first he knew of cloning, several armed plod arrived at 5am, smashed his front door in, stormed the house, guns pointed to his head etc. turned out the clone had been used for armed robberies in manchester.

he was able to prove he was working in liverpool on the times and dates in question so they left him go after most of a day as a guest of hm constabulary.

as far as i know, armed robbers never caught.

scary

I would have thought that it is rare to use a taxi as a getaway car, even in Liverpool.

I'm not sure on this quoting bit yet, anyway.

When they pull you over do they not do a vehicle check? Do they not ask your name? So when they pull a car over that appears to be mine and the person driving it does not have the same name as me PC Plod will start a thinking. When he then sees the VIN plate (bottom left corner of windscreen) has been tampered with, he the radio's HQ. Maybe they then given me a ring and I say, she's sat on the drive. Person then gets arrested.

But with cameras, person drives through a camera site. I get the summons and have to spend my time and money proving it was neither me or my car.
